Those still unable to find a Switch in stock since the console launched in March — to be fair, it's been hard to get one — would be pleased to know that GameStop will restock its shelves soon with Nintendo's popular hybrid machine.
GameStop To Restock Switch Units
The video game retailer has announced that it's set to receive more Switch units "at select stores across the country."
GameStop can't share any specific stock arrival dates, because all units "will arrive at different times throughout the week due to shipping," as it explains. Unsurprisingly, all consoles will be sold on a first-come-first-serve basis, meaning no reservations allowed. Essentially, that means if you chance upon a Switch on your next visit to GameStop, grab it and don't let go.
Switch Bundles Also Available For Online Orders
Those who plan on ordering a Switch online from GameStop should know that the retailer will only offer exclusive Switch bundles for online orders. If you only want to get a standalone Switch unit, you'd have to physically go to the store and buy one. One such bundle includes a copy of the recently released fighting game Arms, a charging dock for the Joy-Con controllers, along with other Switch accessories for $463. By contrast, getting only the Switch will only cost you $299, and if you're going to get Arms, that'll be another $60.
Why You Need To Get The Switch Now
While Nintendo has been attempting to rapidly manufacture Switch units as fast as possible — maybe you can blame Apple for that — trying to find one in shelves proved difficult thus far. That said, Nintendo has committed to produce more Switch units in the long run, but demand can only go so far if components needed to make the Switch run in short supply.
Hopefully Nintendo irons everything out by the time a spate of major titles come out on the Switch, chief of them Super Mario Odyssey, arguably this year's most anticipated holiday title. But before that, Splatoon 2 will launch first on July 21, ensuring that overwhelming demand for Switch units will only get worse.
For those on the fence over buying a Switch now, the forthcoming GameStop restock should serve as the best time to finally get one for yourself or for your children, if you have any. A stellar cache of titles are headed for the console, such as the aforementioned Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and more.
What's more, Nintendo basically confirmed that Game Freak has begun development on a core RPG Pokémon title for the Switch, not a spinoff game at all — but a full-fledged mainline entry. Surely, that made plenty of fans excited, as previous discussion about Game Freak's plans centered on fears that it wasn't planning to make such a title for the Switch, because it's technically a home console. But it is, in fact, also a handheld, and it's a good thing Game Freak understands that.
Nintendo has also begun development on Metroid Prime 4 for the Switch, and many believe that announcement alone rendered Nintendo's presentation as the best of E3. Apart from Metroid, the Switch will also release two new titles: Kirby and Yoshi. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, a crossover game none had thought would turn out impressive but indeed looks extremely well-made, will also launch on the Switch this late August.
