The beefier version of the HTC U11 flagship smartphone packing 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of native storage will reportedly launch in just nine countries.
HTC unveiled its latest flagship last month, introducing the squeezable HTC U11 with enticing specs and features such as Edge Sense, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and more.
HTC U11 Configurations
The company created two configurations for the HTC U11, but the beefier variant might be harder to come by. For U.S. customers, the HTC U11 is available either unlocked, directly from HTC, or from Sprint, which is the exclusive HTC U11 carrier in the United States. Either way, both the unlocked and the Sprint-exclusive versions come with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of native locker space.
A beefier version of the smartphone, meanwhile, packs a heftier 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage space. On the downside, it seems that this variant will not be available in the United States, at least not at first.
HTC U11 With 6 GB RAM Availability
Trusted tipster @LlabTooFeR has revealed a preliminary list of the nine countries set to get the higher-end version of the HTC U11 with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage space. According to the ROM developer, this variant will launch in China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, India, Singapore, Russia, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, and Russia.
The tipster notes that this is a preliminary list, which indicates that HTC could eventually release the beefier HTC U11 variant in more countries.
HTC U11 Specs
Aside from the RAM and storage differences, the two HTC U11 variants share the same specifications. That includes a 5.5-inch Super LCD QHD display (2,560 x 1,440 pixels) with Gorilla Glass 5 protection, a powerful Snapdragon 835 processor, a 12-megapixel main camera with Dual Pixel autofocus, and a 16-megapixel front shooter. Other specs include a 3,000 mAh battery to keep the show going, IP67 certification for water and dust resistance, and a USB Type-C port. It's worthy of note that the HTC U11 does not have a headphone jack, but it bundles noise-canceling USB-C headphones.
HTC also equipped the U11 with Edge Sense technology, which allows users to interact with the smartphone by squeezing it to launch apps and services. The handset only supports a short squeeze and a long squeeze for now, but HTC should add more gestures in the future. The available gestures are customizable, so users could set the short squeeze to launch the camera, for instance, and the long squeeze to open an app.
HTC made no mention so far of whether it will launch the beefier HTC U11 in the United States as well, and there's a strong possibility that this model will never make it stateside through official channels.
U.S. customers who want to get the HTC U11 with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, meanwhile, can preorder it from HTC for $649, or from Sprint at $696. The unlocked model plays nice with all major U.S. carriers.
