For fans of the comics, the post-credits scene of X-Men: Days of Future Past was a big deal. It confirmed that the current film series would conclude with one of the biggest X-Men storylines of all time, and X-Men: Apocalypse could very well be one of the biggest comic book movies ever.
That being said, very little was revealed in the Days of Future Past teaser. Apocalypse's face was obscured for the entire scene, and his private guards, The Four Horsemen, were out of focus. It was simultaneously mysterious and epic, but again - it didn't do much for those who wanted actual information. The big question remained: who would actually be playing Apocalypse?
Thankfully, that question has finally been answered: Variety has revealed that Oscar Isaac will take up the mantle of Apocalypse in the upcoming film. Isaac may not be on many people's radar just yet, but that's likely to change soon. Before X-Men: Apocalypse is released in 2016, Isaac will be playing a part in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
In the comic books, Apocalypse is a near-omnipotent mutant in control of an incredibly powerful group called the Four Horsemen. He's also an imposing figure on his own. While Isaac certainly isn't scrawny, he's not 8 feet tall and metallic, either. In the Days of Future Past teaser, Apocalypse appeared to be much smaller than his comic book counterpart, though his skin was still tinged with the villain's signature shade of blue. In the past, director Bryan Singer has been praised for his relatively realistic take on mutant-kind, so it'll be interesting to see how exactly Apocalypse will be portrayed in the film.
There's still quite a ways to go before fans get to see Isaac putting the pyramids together with his mind: X-Men: Apocalypse isn't scheduled for release until May 18, 2016.
