Gamers who are excited for the Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 should not hold their breath, as Square Enix revealed that it might be a while before these titles hit the shelves.
Square Enix has released screenshots of the two games earlier this year, but apparently, the images do not indicate that the titles are close to being launched.
'Final Fantasy VII Remake,' 'Kingdom Hearts 3' Release Window
In a presentation on the company's financial results, Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda revealed that Final Fantasy XV contributed the most to the company's earning within its HD Games division, while sales for Nier: Automata exceeded expectations.
Matsuda also commented on a slide that focused on upcoming titles for the developer and publisher.
According to Matsuda, the Final Fantasy VII Remake, Kingdom Hearts 3, and the still-untitled Marvel RPG fall under the company's release lineup for its fiscal year 2018 and beyond, with the games planned to be released "in the next three years or so."
The statement of the release window for the two highly anticipated titles does not completely eliminate the possibility that the Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 will be released within the company's current fiscal year, which ends on March 2018. However, given the release window of three years, it is highly likely that the titles will be launched closer to 2020 than to 2018.
Anticipation Builds Up For 'Final Fantasy VII Remake' And 'Kingdom Hearts 3'
The anticipation for the two titles have been building up ever since they were announced by Square Enix.
The Final Fantasy VII Remake, which was first announced at E3 2015, has been the subject of countless rumors, especially due to the very limited amount of information currently available on the title. The game is said to have multiple parts, as it is impossible to fit all the contents of the original PlayStation 1 RPG into a single title, and two screenshots revealed in February showed a first glimpse of the combat menu for the Final Fantasy VII Remake.
The major detail that gamers are waiting for, however, is when the Final Fantasy VII Remake will be released. In January, there were rumors that the game could be released as soon as this year, but Matsuda's statement has now debunked the claim, which was probably more of a wishful thought for fans of the iconic RPG.
In addition, a recent report claimed that the development team of the Final Fantasy VII Remake is urgently seeking for more talent, which means that there is still much left to be done for the project.
Buzz surrounding Kingdom Hearts 3, meanwhile, is not as active as that for the Final Fantasy VII Remake but is still a high-profile title that many gamers are looking forward to. The latest installment in the franchise popular for its confusing titles was first revealed through a trailer in December 2015, and no launch date has also been specified for the adventure game.
The wait for the Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 may be frustratingly long, but for fans of each series, it may be worthwhile.
