Essential Smartphone Could Be Unveiled Soon As Android Cofounder's Company Teases 'Something Big' On May 30

Android cofounder Andy Rubin has "something big" in store for May 30, and it could be the bezel-less, AI-driven smartphone from Essential Products Inc., his company.

That said, the big unveiling is only a few days away, and everybody will finally get a close look at the new contender in the smartphone business.

Essential Smartphone Reveal Date

Taking things to Twitter, Essential announced the May 30 reveal date. While that's a notable piece of info on its own, the tweet didn't really mention anything else, leaving a lot to the imagination.

Rubin himself did add a tweet regarding the topic, urging consumers to stay tuned by following @essential, which was previously a fragrance brand.

Not soon after, the company followed up with a huge teaser that features a smartphone with some sort of accessory attached to it.

From the look of things, it seems to be a 360-degree camera.

Of course, what it is exactly is still up in the air, but it's worth pointing out that Rubin's tweet back in April corroborates the speculation that it's a 360-degree camera.

In other words, it's a safe bet to expect to see Rubin take the wraps off a smartphone along with a 360-degree camera onstage on May 30.

First Look At Essential's Smartphone

Back in March, Rubin showed off a bit of the upcoming smartphone. It didn't tell us much except that the device will have a bezel-less screen, which is more or less similar to the Xiaomi Mi Mix.

To boil things down, we could be looking at a new smartphone and a 360-degree camera attachment to boot on May 30.

It should also be mentioned that Rubin is scheduled to speak on that day at Recode's Code Conference 2017.
