Fallout 4 will be free for all Xbox Live Gold members and Steam users this weekend, Bethesda Softworks confirmed on Wednesday, May 24.
The free trial commences on May 25 and will last through May 28, giving players who haven't tried Fallout 4 plenty of time to finally catch up on the popular post-apocalyptic retro-futuristic series. It's best to keep one's eyes peeled on Xbox Live and Steam for the next few days.
"This weekend you can explore everything a post-nuclear Boston has to offer with the first-ever Fallout 4 Free Weekend," Bethesda wrote in a blog post. Until May 28, gamers can play Fallout 4's base content — meaning the game's premium downloadable content isn't included — and even try out Fallout 4 Mods for free.
Fallout 4 Free Trial And Discount
In addition to the free trial, Bethesda is also offering Fallout 4 discounts for Fallout 4's base game and Season Pass. All Xbox Live, PlayStation Store, and Steam — with up to 67 percent off the game's price.
The free trial will run through May 28, as mentioned, but Steam will offer the discounted price a day longer, ending May 29. For those who are planning to download the free trial on Xbox Live, note that a Gold subscription is required to do so.
Fallout 4, upon release, received warm accolades, though not without its share of reported technical issues. That said, any fan of the Fallout 4 series virtually has no excuse this weekend to finally give Fallout 4 a go, especially if they've never tried it since the game launched in November 2015. The game, for the record, retails for $60 on a regular day, so take up the chance of playing it this coming weekend for the low, low price of free.
Fallout 4 Season Pass Price
Suppose you get hooked well into the trial's ending period, then hit up Steam to purchase the game for 67 percent off. It's a pretty sweet deal Bethesda is offering, so try not to pass up the opportunity if you've been eyeing Fallout 4 for the longest time but never saw a good reason to finally jump onboard. The base game will be available for a discounted price of $20, and for those who are hungry for more, you can get the DLC Season Pass for $30.
Fallout 4
Fallout 4 was released for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC nearly two years ago, and the game still holds up. It is the fifth game in the main series, following Fallout: New Vegas in 2010, Fallout 3 in 2008, Fallout 2 in 1998, and the original Fallout in 1997.
The series has had three spin-offs, released between 2001 and 2015, and several canceled games, for good measure.
The main series is set in a fictionalized version of United States in an alternate history, in which the mankind hadn't invented the transistor. Fallout 4 follows the series's open-world mechanic and elements and is set in Boston in 2287. Players assume the role of Fallout 4's marquee character, called the "Sole Survivor," who tries to brave the post-apocalyptic world to find their missing child.
