A leaked case for Apple's upcoming iPhone 8 that was uploaded by Twitter user Benjamin Geskin seemingly confirms one of the major advantages of the smartphone over rival Samsung's Galaxy S8.
The smartphone case is the latest leak involving the premium iPhone 8, which is expected to be announced in September alongside the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus.
iPhone 8 Case Leak
According to Geskin, the leaked iPhone 8 case was created by a third-party company using information acquired from Foxconn, one of Apple's most prominent suppliers for iPhones.
An inspection of the iPhone 8 case, if it is authentic, reveals no hole at the back. This would mean that Apple was able to figure out a way to place the Touch ID sensor underneath the display after eliminating the Home button in the front. The issue was previously said to be one of the main challenges in getting the smartphone into mass production.
Previous reports claimed that the iPhone 8 will be delayed as Apple was having trouble in getting the fingerprint scanner to work properly when embedded under its screen. More recent reports, however, claimed that the iPhone 8 delay is not true, and Apple apparently solved the problem in time to start selling the smartphone in October.
The placement of the Touch ID underneath the display can be considered one of the major advantages that the iPhone 8 will have over the Samsung Galaxy S8. For Samsung's flagship smartphone, which similarly dropped the Home button at the front, the fingerprint scanner was placed at the back of the device, right beside the camera lens. The placement is widely considered as a design flaw, as users found the placement of the fingerprint scanner awkward. In addition, its location made it extremely likely that users will smudge the camera lens with their fingers as they try to reach for it.
Samsung simply did not have enough time to come up with the solution of placing the fingerprint scanner underneath the display of the Galaxy S8. The company decided to rush the smartphone into the market, and it may pay dearly for that once the iPhone 8 rolls out.
iPhone 8 Leaked Images
Recently leaked images, including ones discovered last week, corroborate with the leaked iPhone 8 case to confirm that the Touch ID sensor is located underneath the smartphone's screen. There is no indication in the leaked images that the Touch ID sensor is at the back of the device, further cementing the belief that Apple has found a solution to the issue.
The leaked images also reveal the dual-camera set-up of the iPhone 8, with the lenses placed in a vertical arrangement at the upper left corner of the back of the smartphone.
iPhone 8 Price
Apple has been very tight-lipped about the iPhone 8, so most of the rumored details about the smartphone have not yet been confirmed.
One of the recurring information regarding the smartphone, however, is that it will reach a price tag of at least $1,000 due to its premium components. Despite that price though, it seems that most Apple fans will still upgrade to the iPhone 8 over the next year.
