The rugged Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is edging closer to release and a new image now surfaced from the Wireless Power Consortium.
Each year, Samsung releases a more rugged version of its flagship under the "Active" moniker. The Active smartphone is bulkier than the regular model, but that's to accommodate the extra toughness.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ hit the scene already, and the Galaxy S8 Active is expected to make its debut soon enough. Rumors, leaks, and reports have already been piling up and the latest leaked render now offers a glimpse of the smartphone and considering the source, it might just be the real deal.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Active Leaked Image
The latest image of the purported Samsung Galaxy S8 Active comes from the Wireless Power Consortium, which is the consortium behind the Qi wireless charging standard. The source adds more credibility to the leak and it also reveals that the smartphone has the necessary certification to support Qi, which means that the Galaxy S8 Active will feature wireless charging capabilities.
The rugged handset should boast military-grade toughness, IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, and should have no trouble handling a few accidental drops and bumps. Underneath the tough exterior, the Galaxy S8 Active is expected to have nearly the same specifications as the regular Galaxy S8 flagship, so there should be no big differences in performance.
Samsung has so far launched its Active versions of flagships as AT&T exclusives in the United States, and this year's Galaxy S8 Active is expected to be no different.
In terms of design, the tough exterior of the smartphone warrants some aesthetic changes compared to the original model, and the Galaxy S8 Active shown in this image seems to do away with the curved edges, as well as the sleek edge-to-edge display of the Galaxy S8.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Active Specs
While the rugged model should sport nearly identical specs to the original version, one notable difference should be in the battery department, as the Galaxy S8 Active should have a more powerful battery. Last year, for instance, the regular Galaxy S7 launched with a 3,000 mAh battery, while the Galaxy S7 Active version boasted a 4,000 mAh battery.
Otherwise, the Galaxy S8 Active should have the same processor, RAM, cameras, and other specifications and features.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active was also spotted recently on a User Agent String and a Netflix support forum with model number SM-G892A, and the latest appearance at the Wireless Power Consortium confirms the model number.
Samsung has yet to make an official announcement regarding its upcoming Galaxy S8 Active, but the rugged smartphone is nonetheless expected to make its debut soon enough.
As always, it's best to take things with a grain of salt for now, until Samsung makes a formal unveiling. The company could announce the Galaxy S8 Active any day now, and we'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more.
