The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ have finally hit the U.S. shelves and are garnering accolades for their brilliant display. However, the Samsung flagships are encountering a new hiccup.
Some Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are facing difficulties while using the Qi wireless charging functionality of the devices and complain that it is not working properly.
Galaxy S8 Wireless Charging Issue
When users attempt to use wireless charging on the Galaxy S8 series, they are greeted with the message that the charging is paused.
"Just got the S8+ today. I attempted to use my wife's Samsung lay down fast charger but it will not charge. It keeps blinking charging paused," a smartphone owner shared on Samsung's community page.
Many other Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ owners also shared that they were facing similar problems.
When users deploy any third-party charging pads to charge the Galaxy S8+ or Galaxy S8, they encounter an error message on the smartphone's display. This message reads that an irregular charge has been detected. On the bottom of the screen another alert states that wireless charging has been paused.
While Samsung's older charging pads are not working with the latest flagships, the functionality is restored with a non-Samsung Adaptive Fast Charger. However, it still does not allow for fast charging. On the other hand, the Fast Charging pads specifically launched for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ appear to support both wireless and fast charging.
"It's possible that if the charger is an older model that it's just not able to charge the newest phone. Same thing happened with the really old wireless chargers when the S7 and S7 Edge came out. There might be an update to fix that, or it might need one of the new wireless chargers in order to work," a user shared on the community page.
The only other charging pad that appears to be compatible is the very first wireless charging pad from Samsung (model EP-PN920).
Samsung Galaxy S8 Other Issues
Just after the smartphone's release, users shared that their Galaxy S8 smartphone was encountering a red tint on its display, which made it look unnatural and unattractive. Samsung acknowledged the problem and assured consumers that it would push out an update to address the red tint issue.
Owners of the Galaxy S8 series are also unhappy with the placement of the fingerprint sensor. The security feature is now located beside the rear camera. Users complain that unlocking the devices through the sensor sometimes causes smudges 0n the camera lens.
Samsung Intentionally Limiting Supported Charging Pads?
In 2016, Samsung faced a setback when the company was forced to recall its Galaxy Note 7 due to battery explosion and overheating. So, it would not come as a surprise if the OEM has knowingly opted to support select charging pads, which have been specially designed for the Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy S8.
