South Park: The Fractured But Whole, the sequel to 2014's South Park: The Stick of Truth, finally has a new release date after a series of delays.
Ubisoft's announcement of the game's release date came alongside a new trailer that provides excited gamers another look on what to expect for the highly anticipated game.
'South Park: The Fractured But Whole' To Be Released In October
Ubisoft announced that South Park: The Fractured But Whole will be launched for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC on Oct. 17, which is 10 months later than the initial release date.
The publisher formally unveiled the game in E3 2016 as a follow-up to the hilarious South Park: The Stick of Truth, which combined South Park with an RPG that was inspired by Lord of the Rings lore. For the sequel, the game was dropping the fantasy setting of its predecessor to go with full-blown superhero antics.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole was said to be released on Dec. 6, 2016. However, in September, Ubisoft said that the game was being delayed into the first quarter of 2017. The reason for the delay was to make sure that it would be able to meet the "high expectations of fans," with the extra time necessary for the developers to do so.
Apparently, it took much more time than anticipated to get South Park: The Fractured But Whole ready for release. In February, Ubisoft again delayed the game's launch to the company's fiscal year 2018, which runs from April to March 2018. At this point, fans started to lose hope that they will see the game soon.
With the new release date of Oct. 17, fans are hoping that Ubisoft will no longer delay South Park: The Fractured But Whole. It seems likely that there will be no further delays, though, as this is the first time after the initial announcement that Ubisoft gave a specific date for the game's release.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole Special Editions
South Park: The Fractured But Whole will come in a variety of editions, namely the Standard edition, the digital-only Gold edition, the US retail-only Steelbook Gold edition, and the Collector's Gold edition.
The Gold edition will come with a set of in-game costumes and a bonus perk, while the Steelbook Gold edition will come with a steelbook and physical lithographic South Park prints. Both the Gold edition and Steelbook Gold edition will come with the game and a season pass, while the Collector's Gold edition will include all that has been mentioned plus a six-inch figurine of The Coon. There is also a special edition that comes with a remote-controlled The Coon Mobile.
All preorders of South Park: The Fractured But Whole will come with Towelie, an exclusive in-game assistant. Customers who preorder the game will also be able to download and play South Park: The Stick of Truth for free right away.
Ubisoft's Plans For Fiscal 2018
Ubisoft previously affirmed that South Park: The Fractured But Whole will be released within the current fiscal year, which stretches until March 31, 2018.
The three other major games that Ubisoft will release within the fiscal year are Assassin's Creed: Origins, Far Cry 5, and The Crew 2.
