It is almost halfway through 2017 and Pokémon GO is still very much alive. After all, there are still Pokémon masters who aspire to catch them all.
As a reward, developer Niantic is giving players a nice treat in the form of promo codes. These can be exchanged for exciting freebies. The codes are currently available for Android systems.
For iOS lovers, how about reliving the old days playing Pokémon Yellow on Apple Watch?
Pokémon Promo Codes
The news about the promo codes was first written in this report. According to the article, Android players can now input codes in the Poké shop to get special items for free. Developer Niantic has not made any official announcements, but there's a post in the Pokémon GO support page about the codes. The page also makes a disclaimer that the offer is currently available for Android only.
"Pokémon GO occasionally offers promotional codes through our partnerships and special events. Promo codes can be used to redeem items such as Poké Balls, Lure Modules, Lucky Eggs, and more," wrote Niantic.
To redeem the codes, here's how:
• Tap the Main Menu (in Map View).
• Tap Shop button.
• Enter the promo code in the text field (at the bottom of the screen).
• Touch Redeem.
If successful, a notification will pop to show the items added in the inventory.
No one knows what the "more" part of the promo code prizes are, but rumors swirl that these codes can be used to get Legendary Pokémons during large-scale events. Or the codes could be handed to players who arrive at sponsored Pokestops, such as Starbucks.
Without any official word, these will remain rumors. Currently, there are no promo codes available. Maybe a lucky guess of the code combination may accidentally win some prizes, but with the lack of noise around the web, it seems no one has been successful.
Future Pokémon Updates
Pokémon GO released its first major update of 2017 last February, with over 80 new Pokémons (Generation 2) for players to add to their growing collection. Other new features are new Berry items, as well as new evolutions and customizable avatars.
Niantic promised "three major updates" this year in addition to the February update. With the first one out, players speculate on what the other updates will bring. It can be a Player-vs-Player (PVP) mode and gym revamps. Unfortunately, Niantic has not said anything about since then. What followed were special events like "Water Festival" and "Easter Eggstravaganza."
Stay tuned for more Pokémon GO updates!
