Microsoft has many plans lined up for its #MicrosoftEDU event, and a leak is not one of them.
A Twitter user named WalkingCat (@h0x0d) released the specs and images for the Surface Laptop. Otherwise known as Surface Cloudbook, it is expected to be unveiled during Microsoft's Education event on May 2. The device is also speculated to have the Windows 10 Cloud OS.
Surface Laptop's Leaked Specs
Renowned Microsoft leaker WalkingCat leaked the specs for the Surface Laptop via Twitter, and if based on the images he shared, the Surface Laptop looks like Microsoft's version of Chromebook.
The laptop will have 13.5-inch monitor with Microsoft's proprietary PixelSense technology, which means the screen will be touch-enabled and have Windows Ink support. The display will have 3.4 million pixels, which suggests it will sport a 1080 full HD resolution with a 3:2 aspect ratio.
A 360-video shared by Walking Cat showed a very slim laptop device with very few ports. Some reports speculate these could be regular USB port, mini DisplayPort, headphone jack, and a Surface dock charging slot. The laptop will be very light and sleek: front thickness of 9.9 millimeter, rear thickness of 14.47 millimeter, and a reported weight of 2.76 pounds.
Another image shared showed that the laptop will be available in four colors: Platinum, Cobalt Blue, Burgundy, and Graphite Gold. Perhaps the biggest catch is the patented Alcantara keyboard, the same fabric used on Surface tablets' removable keyboard.
Microsot's Answer To Chromebook?
Microsoft has been long speculated to compete with Google when it comes to a simplified hardware for educational use. Hence, the Surface Laptop as the answer to Google Chromebook. The latter has gained popularity in schools, with 58 percent of K-12 schools using it.
The Surface Laptop will have a pre-installed Windows 10 S, otherwise known as Windows 10 Cloud operating system designed to run Universal Apps from the Windows Store. Like the Chrome OS, the simplified Windows 10 may require the internet to use and to access the Windows Store.
Other specs such as CPU, GPU, RAM, battery, and storage have not been revealed, but considering the laptop is designed to run apps from the Windows Store, it will not require powerful hardware inside. The pricing, availability, and other details were also not included, but more about the device will be officially known once Microsoft's Education event concludes.
The laptop is expected to be introduced at #MicrosoftEDU event on May 2 in New York City. It will begin at 9:30 a.m. ET.
