Dodge finally revealed its hotly-anticipated vehicle — the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon — on Tuesday, April 11, at the New York Auto Show event.
Car enthusiasts were eagerly awaiting news on the vehicle, which according to Dodge is the most powerful muscle car in the world.
The 2018 Challenger's Starry Launch
The launch event for the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon was a star-studded one. Dodge brought in famous celebrities like rapper Wiz Khalifa and Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel to promote the vehicle.
"As you know, I have been related to the Dodge family for some time now. Cars like Demon are why I'm proud to be the new ambassador of Dodge," said Diesel during the event.
He also said that the new vehicle is "barely street legal," referring to the massively powerful engine and the high speeds it is capable of achieving.
2018 Challenger SRT Demon: Features Of The Muscle Car
The upcoming Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will house an impressive 840-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Demon V-8 engine. The company also revealed that the vehicle is capable of exerting a torque of 770 pound-feet. These two, when combined, make the Demon the most powerful muscle car around.
Company officials also stated that the new HEMI V-8 engine is made up of different components than what is present in the Hellcat V-8 engines. These different components include a 2.7-liter supercharger, the ability to spin at 6,500 rpm, and two dual-storage fuel pumps. The motor is fitted with an eight-speed auto transmission and torque converter.
The car has also supposedly been awarded a Guinness World Record for being the only vehicle in production with a front wheel lift. It is also the fastest quartile-mile production car, with an elapsed time of 9.65 seconds and 140 mph.
Dodge revealed that the Challenger SRT Demon takes just 2.3 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph, and just 1 second to go from 0 to 30 mph.
To make the vehicle as fast as possible, the company decided to ditch the rear and passenger seats. This accounted for a 113 pound reduction in weight. However, other unimportant parts were also removed, which decreased the weight further by 87 pounds.
The Demon will come with a basic audio system, which can be upgraded. It will also let users choose from a power sunroof, to heated and ventilated seats, and more such customizations. The vehicle will be available in 14 different exterior shades.
Demon owners will also get a leather-bound manual and a free session at the Bob Bondurant School Of High-Performance Driving, which is located in Chandler, Arizona.
The pricing of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon was not revealed at the event. However, the company stated that there will be very limited production of the vehicle, with only 3,000 units planned for the United States and 300 for Canada.
Production will begin in summer at the FCA-owned Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario, while deliveries will start in fall.
