Details on the next Overwatch event have been leaked, revealing a new player vs. enemy cooperative mode and new skins for several heroes.
The event, named Insurrection, was teased by Blizzard last week. It will provide an in-depth look at one of the most important missions in the past for the Overwatch team.
Insurrection Event For 'Overwatch' Leaks
The information regarding Insurrection was taken from a video that was wrongfully uploaded to the French PlayStation YouTube channel, as Blizzard said that the announcement of what it was teasing last week will not happen until April 11. The video has since been taken down, but not before Overwatch players found out about the details of the upcoming event.
Insurrection will go online on April 11 and will run until May 1. The event's main feature is a new mode set in a daytime version of the game's King's Row map that will allow players to "relive one of the key moments in the history of Overwatch."
Players, who will take on the role of either Tracer, Reinhardt, Mercy, or Torbjörn, will need to work together to fight against waves upon waves of Omnics, including two-legged robot beasts and Omnics with shields.
In addition to the cooperative mode, Insurrection will bring new skins for several Overwatch heroes, namely Blackwatch versions of McCree and a not yet full-robot Genji, a pre-purple Widowmaker working for Talon, a battle-turret skin of Orisa as a member of the Null Sector, and the blue uniforms worn by the heroes participating in the player vs. enemy mode.
Including the skins, there will be over 100 new unlockable items such as poses, emotes, and sprays featured in Insurrection for players to collect from Loot Boxes.
There was also a glimpse of a new spray for Widowmaker that features her wedding picture with her husband, a former Overwatch agent who she killed with her own hands after being reconditioned by Talon into an emotionless assassin.
Junkenstein's Revenge Returns
If the cooperative mode in Insurrection sounds familiar, it is because Blizzard has previously released such a mode in last year's Halloween event named Junkenstein's Revenge. The mode, wherein gamers played as either Ana, Hanzo, McCree, or Soldier: 76, had them make a stand against enemies that include Mercy, Reaper, Roadhog, and Junkenstein in their Halloween skins.
The cooperative mode of Junkenstein's Revenge was so much fun for players that there was clamor for the development team to make it a permanent fixture in Overwatch. While that wish was not obviously granted, it appears that Blizzard has listened to the positive feedback and has re-released it in Insurrection.
Recent 'Overwatch' News
As players all over the world wait for Insurrection to be released, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan has been busy with interviews regarding the massively popular multiplayer shooter.
In separate interviews, Kaplan revealed that there is still a chance for the game to be ported to the Nintendo Switch, and that early on in the development of Overwatch, there was a cat hero that was riding around on a jetpack.
