It's about time that Xbox focuses more on what it does best: video games.
Xbox big boss Phil Spencer said that the company wants to shine the spotlight on its games this coming E3 2017. Microsoft is also rumored to debut its upcoming upgraded Xbox One console code-named Project Scorpio.
E3 2017 will be held on June 14-16. This annual video game conference is the biggest stage for developers and publishers such as Microsoft to showcase their upcoming titles and projects.
Xbox To Focus On Games
It is a given that Xbox, like most major game developers and publishers, has big plans for the upcoming E3 2017. It previously announced that its usual pre-E3 press conference will be moved from its usual Monday morning spot to Sunday afternoon. This move is seen as Xbox's preparation for a more slow-paced, relaxed showcase. Fans also believed that the spot is ideal for the reveal of Project Scorpio, Xbox's upcoming new console.
But it seems that Xbox has a simpler goal in mind: showcasing games. Responding to a fan tweet, Xbox head Phil Spencer said that the focus will be on games.
"I want to give our games more time on stage at E3, I sometimes feel like we rush telling the story of our games at E3," Spencer tweeted.
Microsoft Xbox First-Party Games
There is an array of games developed by Mircrosoft Studios that will come out this year. These games will definitely see some light in the upcoming E3.
One big title is the much-anticipated Crackdown 3, the open-world action shooter first announced in E3 2014. The game is said to feature destructible environments, which will highlight the new capabilities of the upcoming new Xbox console.
Another open-world title exclusive to Microsoft is State of Decay 2, the sequel to the 2013 hit survival zombie game State of Decay.
Another major Xbox exclusive is Sea of Thieves, a first-person action adventure cooperative game. It is a pirate-inspired game set in an open-world environment and features seafaring and treasure hunting.
Xbox Project Scorpio To Debut
These games are good, but all eyes will be on the new Xbox console under the code name Project Scorpio. Loyal Xbox fans and potential new gamers will finally see if the hype is all worth it. Of course, Microsoft has to make a convincing point to woo players back into the Xbox fold with this new console. After all, Xbox has suffered quite a setback versus its rival PlayStation 4 and the market being gained by the recently released Nintendo Switch.
Microsoft's biggest project Scalebound was cancelled and this might have hit the console's reputation. Xbox's list of exclusive titles already pales in comparison with the wealth of PlayStation 4-exclusives, such as the successful Horizon Zero Dawn and NioH.
Nintendo will always be Nintendo when it comes to in-house games like the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and of course, the Super Mario franchise. Thus, Project Scorpio must be the shot in the arm to bring back some life to Xbox when it comes to games.
