The Samsung Gear VR just got a cool new app that makes the weather forecast exciting, as AccuWeather joined the virtual reality party with some cool tricks in tow.
Weather apps have come a long way since they first hit the scene and they're gradually improving, aiming to be not only accurate but also engaging and immersive.
AccuWeather is among the world's most popular weather apps already and it just got even better, allowing users to check the weather like never before.
Gear VR AccuWeather App With 360-Degree Videos
AccuWeather has officially announced a new virtual reality app for the Samsung Gear VR, making the weather forecast more immersive than ever. The app is called AccuWeather - Weather for Life and it includes amazing 360-degree videos. Users can get a close-up view of a chilling tornado, for instance, making them feel as if they were in the midst of it.
"AccuWeather is excited to partner with Samsung on the launch of the AccuWeather - Weather for Life app for Gear VR, bringing users the most accurate, most innovative weather forecasts and information available worldwide," says Steven Smith, AccuWeather president of Digital Media. "The app is interactive and easy for users to access immersive 360-degree video content and weather forecasts, all with the Superior Accuracy from AccuWeather they rely on, experiencing weather in revolutionary new ways."
At first, the AccuWeather VR app will offer exclusive 360-degree video footage of major weather events that occurred recently. This includes a scary close-up of the tornado that ravaged Wray, Colorado recently. AccuWeather will add more such 360-degree videos on a weekly basis, allowing Gear VR users to enjoy an immersive weather experience from the comfort of their homes.
Samsung Gear VR AccuWeather App Availability
The special AccuWeather app for the Samsung Gear VR is available for owners of select Samsung Galaxy devices: the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, the Galaxy Note 5, and the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, and Galaxy S6 edge+.
Interested users can find the app within the Oculus app, as well as on the Oculus Experiences store.
In addition to the exciting 360-degree weather videos, the AccuWeather - Weather for Life app will also deliver a regular weather forecast experience such as daily and hourly forecasts for current weather conditions, complete with wind speed, precipitation, wind direction, and dew point.
Just like the regular app, the VR AccuWeather app also offers alerts and warnings for severe weather events, as well as RealFeel temperatures and more.
Simply put, the AccuWeather VR app aims to offer something for everyone, whether they're storm chasers looking for an immersive experience or just regular users who need weather updates in a more engaging manner.
Virtual reality is gradually gaining more ground and the VR universe is constantly expanding, covering more areas and adding new experiences. VR has yet to become mainstream, but it's nonetheless getting increasingly accessible and exciting.
