Nokia 6 Scratch, Burn, And Bend Tests: Did The Smartphone Survive The Ordeal? [Video]

The Nokia 6 is one of the most hyped Android smartphones around right now and even as the global rollout of the device had to wait, tech enthusiasts are leaving no stone unturned to check out how robust the handset is.

A test has been conducted to check the durability of the smartphone, and the Nokia 6 passed with flying colors. The Nokia 6 compensates on toughness with what it lacks in the looks department.

YouTuber JerryRigEverything tested the mettle of the Nokia 6 and determined whether it is up to the mark or not.

"It's time to put Nokia's latest creation up against the JerryRigEverything standard durability tests. Will the Nokia name honor the incredible battle tested invincible 3310 phones of the past? Or will Nokia slack off on their newest Android smartphone and let the durability falter? There is literally only one place on YouTube to find the answer," notes the video description.

How Durable Is The Nokia 6?

The video begins with Jerry testing the scratch-resistance capacity of the Nokia 6 screen. It is revealed that the 5.5-inch screen is quite scratch-proof and keys and coins will cause no harm to the screen. The Gorilla Glass 3 also helps the cause. This leads to the screen being at par with many of the high-end smartphones available today.

The chassis is made up completely of aluminum and scratches easily by a sharp razorblade. This is a common characteristic of metal phones though. The glass covering on the phone's primary camera is extremely hard and scratch-resistant, as is the front-placed touch sensor. Both these glass coverings could not be affected by the razor blade.

The pixels on the display screen though did get burnt after being exposed to a naked flame for 10 seconds, but returned to normal soon after the flame was put away.

What Are The Flaws?

The only blot on the phone's durability is the earpiece material. The earpiece is made up of some sort of a fine cloth which can be torn or displaced easily. In a year or two after use, Jerry predicts that it is likely that the cloth may be displaced from its original position, as the adhesive connecting it to the body wears off.

Nokia 6: Under The Hood

The Nokia 6 comes with a 5.5-inch screen with a 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution. It contains a Gorilla Glass 3 coating, making the screen super-durable. The phone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and houses 3 GB of RAM, with 32 GB internal storage.

The primary camera is a 16-megapixel shooter, while the secondary camera is an 8-megapixel one. The phone has a microSD card slot, supporting up to 128 GB external memory. The phone's aluminum body is very tough all round.

The Nokia 6 runs on Android Nougat 7.1.1, with a 3,000 mAh battery in tow. The phone is fitted with a front-facing fingerprint scanner.

The Verdict

In conclusion, according to its price of $250, the Nokia 6 is definitely one of the most durable phones out there. It has been manufactured in a solid, impressive way. With Nokia and HMD Global making the next series of smartphones out of solid blocks of aluminum, it remains to be seen how much more durable Nokia phones will become in the future.
