This superhero dad will do anything to help his sick baby feel strong.
Using his creativity and skills, professional prop maker Eric Hart built his son an Iron Man costume this Halloween so that he could feel brave.
"I came up with Iron Man, because he's been hooked up to all those machines and wires, and that's similar to what Iron Man went through," Hart said. "There are a lot of times when the baby is sedated, and you can't interact, so this is something we could actually do and say, 'We may not be normal right now, but this is our new normal.' "
The heartbreaking story was shared on YouTube, resonating with parents across the Internet.
"Our son has spent his entire life in the hospital," the video says before showing the small infant in the hospital.
Hart's son Collier remains in the hospital after being born prematurely in July. And when the baby's first Halloween came around, no sickness could stop the positive spirits of the Hart family.
"Even though we're in the hospital, we're trying to do everything that a regular family would do and celebrate all the holidays," he said. "When he's older, he'll be able look back and hopefully see that his parents have basically been giving him a normal life ever since he started. We never thought of him as an interruption over this medical thing."
Seen with his scissors and Scotch tape nearby, the video features Hart building the costume over the course of several days. He had to scale the Iron Man printout pattern he found online to fit the baby, and then transferred the pattern to foam before hot-gluing the pieces together.
Although baby Collier only wore the costume for a minute, the Hart family can always look back at how brave and strong their little superhero was since day one.
