Samsung has come up with a new tablet dubbed the Galaxy Book. The device was announced at the MWC 2017, where the company showed off the two variants of the tablet measuring 10.6 inches and 12 inches.
Both the 10.6-inch and 12-inch Galaxy Book tablets will come bundled with an S Pen stylus and detachable keyboard cover.
These new tablets from Samsung are being considered by many to rival the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, especially because of the big screen size and presence of a stylus.
The Galaxy Book: Specs And Features
The Samsung Galaxy Book 12-inch model offers state-of-the-art specs. It deploys a Super AMOLED display supporting a 2,160 x 1,440 pixel resolution.
The device is powered by the Intel Kaby Lake Core i5 processor, clocked at 3.1 GHz. The device comes with either 4 GB of RAM or 8 GB of RAM and either 128 GB or 256 GB storage. The storage is expandable to an additional 256 GB.
It features a slim body and is just 7.4 millimeters (0.29 inches) thick, counting the detachable keyboard in the thickness as well. This model supports HDR, ensuring superior quality videos and images. It also packs in a 5-megapixel secondary camera, as well as a 13-megapixel primary snapper.
On the other hand, the 10.6-inch Galaxy Book boasts a Full HD (1,920 x 1,280 pixels) TFT display.
It is powered by a dual-core Intel Core m3 processor, which is clocked at 2.6 GHz. It houses 4 GB of RAM and comes with either 64 GB or 128 GB storage capabilities, expandable up to 256 GB via microSD. It supports a 5-megapixel secondary camera.
Both the models support LTE connectivity and support two USB Type-C ports. Samsung has also revealed that the batteries in both models will be able to support the tablets for around 10 hours, while the Quick Charge functionality would ensure that the devices get charged up in a jiffy.
The S Pen stylus to be bundled with the tablets has also been upgraded with a rubber tip to improve functionality and give users the feeling of drawing or writing on paper. It has flat sides that ensure the stylus does not roll off a surface, while a specially designed clip prevents it from getting lost.
Both devices run on Windows 10 OS.
Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Rival?
With the kind of specs that the Samsung Galaxy Book is sporting, it is quite natural that comparisons would be drawn between it and Microsoft's Surface Pro 4.
The Samsung tablet will come with both the S Pen and the keyboard, whereas the Microsoft tablet comes with just the stylus and users have to buy the keyboard separately. The Galaxy Book could pose a potential threat to the Microsoft tablet as it also runs on Windows 10 OS.
There has been no concrete word on the pricing and availability of the Galaxy Book, so it may be too early to start comparing the Galaxy Book and the Microsoft Surface Pro 4.
