Asus Unveils ZenFone Live As World's First Smartphone With Real-Time Beautification Tech, Selfie Flash, And More

Asus has unveiled a new smartphone called the ZenFone Live, touting unique features to cater to the growing selfie trend.

According to the company, the ZenFone Live is perfectly equipped for glamorous selfies. While it's an entry-level handset likely targeting budget shoppers, the ZenFone Live does have a few tricks up its sleeve.

World's First Smartphone With Real-Time Beautification Technology

"ZenFone Live is the world's first smartphone with hardware-optimized, real-time beautification technology, making it possible to share an even more glamorous version of yourself - Live!" boasts Asus.

The real-time beautification relies on app BeautyLive and it works its magic right on the spot rather than requiring edits after the photo or video is taken. The beautification feature can remove blemishes from one's skin, smoothen out the skin, and apply some other tricks in real time to ensure the subject of the photo or live video looks their best.

Asus notes that the BeautyLive app sports integration with Facebook, YouTube, and several other such popular apps, which means that sharing those glamorous shots should be a breeze.

Asus ZenFone Live Specs

In terms of specifications, the new Asus ZenFone Live features a 5-inch IPS HD display (1,280 x 720 pixels) with 2.5D curved glass, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (unspecified, but likely from the 400 series), 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB/32 GB of native storage space, expandable via microSD. A 2,650 mAh battery should provide a decent performance on a single charge, considering that the smartphone's specs are not that powerful.

The Asus ZenFone Live aims to shine in the camera department, however, and for that it offers a 13-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture and a 5-megapixel selfie cam with an f/2.2 aperture, 1.4um pixel size, 82-degree wide-angle lens and a soft LED flash.

The handset further sports two nano SIM card slots, one of which can be used as a microSD card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual microphones, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow with ZenUI 3.5 on top.

Asus ZenFone Live Design

The Asus ZenFone Live rocks a sleek metal body and comes in three color options: Rose Pink, Navy Black, and Shimmer Gold. The handset has three capacitive keys below the display (back, home and multitasking/overview), the company's brand logo on the back, and the power/lock button and volume rocker on the right side.

Asus has yet to offer more information regarding the price and availability of its new ZenFone Live smartphone, but it's expected to announce more details shortly. Nevertheless, considering the entry-level specifications it packs, the handset should come at the budget segment of the smartphone market. If it comes at an attractive price point, the unique beautification features could make it a compelling offer for selfie lovers.

For other budget smartphone shoppers, Asus is also expected to announce a ZenFone 3 Go handset at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2017.

It remains unclear whether the Asus ZenFone Live will go on sale in the United States as well, but anything's possible. Would you be interested in a budget handset with real-time beautification features for photos and videos? Let us know in the comments section below.
