Filming Begins For Stand-Alone 'Star Wars' Movie: Meet The Cast Of Han Solo Spin-Off

The first photo of the cast has been revealed, filming has begun and a 2018 release date has already been set. The Han Solo spin-off movie is definitely on the move, and many are already excited to see the long overdue movie about the rebellion's coolest leader before he even met Luke and Leia.

Here are the actors who will bring youth to beloved Star Wars characters.

Alden Ehrenreich As Young Han Solo

Alden Ehrenreich is most notably known for his works in Francis Ford Coppola's Tetro in 2009 and his portrayal of Ethan Wate in the film adaptation of the novel Beautiful Creatures in 2013. He has also worked with other notable directors such as Woody Allen and the Coen brothers when he took on roles in Blue Jasmine and Hail, Caesar! respectively. One of his latest works is the 2016 Warren Beatty film Rules Don't Apply where he performed admirably alongside Lily Collins, Martin Sheen, and Matthew Broderick.

The 27-year-old actor is set to play the captain of the Millennium Falcon in his younger years, and it will be interesting to see his take on the rebellious Han Solo.

Joonas Suotamo As Chewbacca

Finnish basketball player and actor Joonas Suotamo is set to play the beloved Wookiee in the spin-off movie. He was a body double for Peter Mayhew in Star Wars: The Force Awakens but will play the character in the yet to be titled Han Solo film as well as Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Donald Glover As Lando Calrissian

Donald Glover played Troy Barnes in NBC's Community before leaving the sitcom to focus on his other endeavors. Since then, he has played roles in The Martian among his other movies, and written, produced and acted in FX show Atlanta for which he won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy in 2017. He has also recently released the album Awaken, My Love! under his musical alter-ego, Childish Gambino.

Multi-talented Donald Glover is set to play the young Lando Calrissian.

Woody Harrelson

Many know Woody Harrelson from his comedic input in his roles in The Hunger Games, Zombieland and as a magician/illusionist in Now You See Me and its sequel Now You See Me 2. The actor, however, has the acting chops that brought life into his character in HBO's gritty detective series True Detective opposite Matthew McConaughey.

The character Harrelson will play in the Han Solo movie is still unknown, but it has been said that he might play a sort of mentor to Han Solo that may or may not be a criminal as well.

Emilia Clarke

Emilia Clarke is mostly known for her portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in the much loved Game of Thrones and her portrayal of an equally strong lead character in 2015's Terminator Genisys. Clarke also brought colourful character in her portrayal of a quirky and hardworking woman when she played Louisa Clark in the film adaptation of the novel Me Before You. Clarke is set to play the female lead in the Star Wars spin-off.

Thandie Newton

Thandie Netwon is best known for her roles in The Pursuit of Happyness, Mission Impossible II, 2012, and most recently in the widely acclaimed HBO thriller series Westworld where she plays the charming and perceptive Westworld Host Maeve Millay. Her character in the Han Solo movie is still unknown.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a multi-talented English actress, writer, director, and playwright. Though she is very active in the theater, she is also well-known for her sitcoms such as Channel 4's Crashing and BBC Three's Fleabag which has garnered multiple nominations from the 7th Critics' Choice Television Awards and the Broadcast Awards.

Little is known about Waller-Bridge's character in the film, but there is the possibility of her lending her voice to a female droid.

The Untitled Star Wars Han Solo movie is set to be released in the summer of 2018.
