The Colony Ship Covenant And Its Crew

According to the official movie synopsis, Alien: Covenant is about the colony ship Covenant and its crew. They are bound for a remote planet somewhere on the far side of the galaxy. Then they discover that the unchartered paradise they thought it to be is in reality a dark and dangerous world. In this desolate and dangerous new world, they "uncover a threat beyond their imagination" from which they must escape.

In the film, Franco will play as Captain Branson, the original captain of the Covenant and the partner of Daniels, who is played by Katherine Waterston.

Joining them as crew of the ship are Michael Fassbender, who will play as the androids Walter and David. Walter is an android who assists the Covenant crew, while David is an earlier-version who previously helped in the ship Prometheus.

Billy Crudup (Big Fish, Watchmen) will play as the current captain of the Covenant. Comedian Danny McBride (Manglehorn, Your Highness) will play as the Covenant's pilot.

Reappearing from the Prometheus cast are Noomi Rapace as Dr. Elizabeth Shaw and Guy Pearce as billionaire Peter Weyland.

Sequel To The Prequel

Ridley Scott once again takes over this new film that is part of the Alien franchise. This is the sequel to 2012's Prometheus, a prequel film also directed by Scott (thus making Covenant the second prequel movie.) Prometheus centered on the crew of the titular spaceship Prometheus as they arrive on a distant world in their quest for the origin of humanity.

Scott planned to create four prequel films that would connect to the main Aliens storyline. He confirmed this when he said that Alien: Covenant will be the first of three prequels before the story goes back to Alien.
