Battle Of Budget Phones: Huawei Honor 6X Takes On Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

The latest addition to the Huawei Honor lineup is the Honor 6X. With a premium design and a great build, the smartphone poses tough competition in the affordable smartphone segment.

Today, we're comparing the Huawei smartphone with another great contender from the same segment: the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.

Design

Although both smartphones are carved out of an aluminum unibody, the fit and finish are better on the Xiaomi smartphone because of the gentle curves along the sides. In fact, the grip is much better even for one-handed use.

"The 2.5D curved glass has an aesthetic edge over typical flat glass," Xiaomi touts. "It looks better and feels a lot smoother when you tap and swipe your fingers across the screen."

The Note 4 looks to be the better choice.

Display

With same screen size and full HD, many would expect both smartphones to have the same display qualities. Well, that is not the case here.

The Redmi phone seems to produce accurate colors. Even under direct sunlight, the Xiaomi screen does look legible thanks to Xiaomi's Sunlight Display technology. In comparison, Honor does not have great viewing angles, and color reproduction is also not as impressive.

Hardware

The Honor 6X is powered by the Huawei-manufactured Hi-Silicon Kirin 655 octa-core processor, clocking in at 1.7 GHz. It also has Mali-T830MP2 support.

The Redmi Note 4 smartphone is fueled by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC octa-core, clocking in at 2 GHz. It has the support of Adreno 506 GPU.

Both handsets provided similar performance in most cases, so we could not decide on a clear winner.

The Winner: It's a tie!

Camera

Honor 6X is the only smartphone of the two with a dual-rear camera setup. With a 12 MP rear camera coupled with a 2 MP sensor, which acts as depth sensor, Honor 6X currently has the best camera in the affordable smartphone segment, "giving you the image quality and rendering power that every photo fanatic deserves from a top-of-the-line phone," the company says.

The Note 4 comes with 13 MP rear cameras and could fire decent photos.

The Winner: Huawei Honor 6X

Battery

With a larger battery capacity of 4,100 mAh, the Xiaomi smartphone lasts longer than the Honor 6X smartphones, which comes with a 3,100 mAh unit.

Which One to Choose?

From overall features, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 seems to be the choice with a better display and larger battery life. However, for shutterbugs, the Huawei Honor 6X is currently the best smartphone to have thanks to the dual-rear camera setup.
