OnePlus One users should be receiving the CM11S build number 44S any time now. The update is meant to solve a number of major glitches and bugs such as screen artifacts, Wi-Fi stability, SSLv3 POODLE security flaws, new touchscreen firmware, and other tweaks.
The update had been in testing since the previous week as users had already started reporting the firmware. Usually, the user would get a notification to update over the air. If there's no notification, the user can try to check his settings and manually refresh his device.
The 44S update gets to the device over-the-air. However, the timing is based on the region which means that some may already have the update available while some may get their update a little delayed. OnePlus One users are therefore advised to keep an eye out for the update to roll out in the next couple of days.
"The OTA will be released slowly and therefore some regions might receive it before others," said OnePlus. "Once you've received your OTA please let us know what you think! Any further issues you may find can also be reported directly to Cyanogen."
OnePlus revealed at least six items in the list of changes that they brought with the update. They said that they fixed: 1. An issue with memory causing screen artifacts; 2. The 'black bar' issue; 3. Persist partition corruption; 4. Filesystem; 5. WiFi and modern crashes; 5. For random reboots and instability; and 6. Issue with AT&T VolTE.
Most of the repairs have certain levels of significance. The issues on screen artifacts and black bars from misquided pixels may have caused some frustration on the part of the users. Moreover, those issues dealing with modem crashes, WiFi, Filesystem, and persist partition corruption have led most devices to forced rebooting, hard resetting, and getting stuck in a boot loop.
With all these issues on hand, an OTA update is definitely preferable.
The 11S (44S) update comes around a month after the company's previous software update which brought new features such as the ability to shoot photos in RAW format and high-quality audio playback.
In July, OnePlus confirmed that the device is getting Android 5.0 Lollipop at least within three months from receiving it from Google. This means that the handset should be able to get Lollipop in February of the coming year.
OnePlus already hit a milestone by selling 500,000 OnePlus One handsets. The company aims to sell a total of 1 million devices before the end of 2014.
