Apple Music has announced the premiere date for the brand-new series of "Carpool Karaoke" set to debut on its platform. Although James Corden won't be hosting, he is set to appear in one segment on a helicopter ride with Will Smith, which is featured along with other celebrity pairings in a just released preview video.
'Carpool Karaoke' Is Hotter Than Ever
James Corden's "Carpool Karaoke" is the hottest thing going these days, and the concept shows no signs of slowing down. The Late Late Show with James Corden host's ride with Adele was the most viewed video on YouTube in 2016, and the "Carpool Karaoke" video clips have amassed over a billion views overall on the platform.
"Carpool Karaoke" was thrust further into the spotlight when Corden featured a version of it on the recent Grammy Awards, which he hosted, albeit in a makeshift cardboard car cutout. Immediately following that appearance, the first commercial aired for the highly anticipated version of "Carpool Karaoke," coming from Apple Music. Brief clips of some of the celebrity pairings were shown, and now, Apple Music has released an extended video trailer showing more of the matchups set to air, along with announcing an April premiere date.
When Apple Music announced that it would be airing its own series version of the segments, the big question on everybody's mind was who would be the host, as it was revealed that Corden would be producing the show along with partner Ben Winston, but would not appear. It was later revealed that rather than having a single host, each episode would feature different match ups of two celebrities that would ride together in a similar sing along style to that of the original segments.
Apple Music 'Carpool Karaoke' Trailer Video Features James Corden And Will Smith
Now that the trailer has been released, it's clear that Corden will in fact be appearing in at least one episode, along with mega star Will Smith, who started his career in music as one half of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, and then moved onto acting, first as the star of hit sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and then as an A-list movie star.
In the preview video, Corden and Smith are seen rapping the theme song from Smith's former sitcom, along with moments from celeb pairings such as Ariana Grande and Seth MacFarlane, Michael Strahan and Jeff Gordon, Blake Shelton and Chelsea Handler, John Cena and Shaquille O'Neal, and Billy Eichner and Metallica.
It looks as if the series, which will feature 16 half-hour episodes, will also be expanding beyond the usual car rides, as Corden and Smith are also seen riding together in a helicopter as they belt out R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly," while other more grounded karaoke locations include a supermarket, a laundromat, and a dive bar.
