7 Upcoming Horror Games For 2017

It is a good year for horror video games.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard started the year 2017 with a good scare. Critics applauded its return to form, which is raw, atmospheric psychological horror. Resident Evil pioneered the survival-horror video game genre and it is just befitting that it sets the standards on what a good scary title should be.

Coming on the heels of Resident Evil 7's success, here are seven upcoming horror unique titles to give you chills. For release on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Outlast 2

Studio Red Barrels scared the gaming world in 2013 with its horror title Outlast. The found footage style of the first game will feature in the sequel, Outlast 2.

The players will take the role of cameraman and investigative journalist Blake Langermann. Following the trail of the mysterious murder of a pregnant woman leads him and his wife to a rural village deep in the deserts of Arizona. The first game centered on insane horror of a mental asylum; Outlast 2 will focus on religious horror as Blake investigates the village's nightmarish cult.

Hello Neighbor

Do not Hello Neighbor's Pixar-like animation fool you — it is not a kiddie game for the weak of heart. Studio tinyBuild and Dynamic Pixels took the concept of "that scary neighbor" of our naïve yesteryears and added a horror twist.

The mission of this stealth horror game is to uncover the secret of your mysterious neighbor by invading his house. The game's tension springs from devising your tactics as you prevent yourself from getting caught by your neighbor, who as a gameplay trailer showed, is not really happy for your indiscretion.

Little Nightmares

Speaking of animated horror, Little Nightmares is a unique scary game that adds cuteness to its creepy atmosphere. Developed by Bandai Namco, this puzzle platformer lets you control Six, a small girl, as she escapes the Maw, a surreal underwater resort.

This creepy cutie game will come out on April 28 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Friday The 13th: The Game

Jason is back to kill you! Friday the 13th: The Game is an asymmetrical video game inspired by the classic movie. It lets you play either the killer Jason, or one of the seven Camp Crystal Lake Counselors. The goal is simple: survive.

The game is slated for a Q1 2017 release for Windows PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Days Gone

If zombies are your source of scare, then Days Gone is for you. It is a survival horror shooter game that puts you in an open world populated by fast-moving creatures called Freakers. You will be Deacon St. John, a biker and former bounty hunter roaming the dangerous open roads.

A late 2017 is in the works for a worldwide release for this PlayStation 4 exclusive.

Perception

Perception is being developed by the great minds behind BioShock. This game offers a literal different view on the genre, as you control a blind protagonist who can use super hearing and cane to navigate. Tapping the cane against objects gives you a temporary visual cue (think of echolocation). A caveat: the noise can also be heard by your ghostly pursuers, so use it wisely!

No confirmed date but the game is expected to come out this year for PS4 and PC.

P.A.M.E.L.A.

P.A.M.E.L.A. is a sci-fi first-person shooter survival horror game developed for PC. The game takes place in Eden, a Utopian city gone wrong. You are a sleeper, who is woken up from your cryosleep by Eden's AI Pamela. Together, you uncover what went wrong and caused the nightmare that is Eden.
