Game publishers often take advantage of the holiday season to dole out freebies, exclusive items and boosts, among others, to their players. Here is a list of the five games that are currently holding hot special events to commemorate Valentine's Day.
Pokémon GO
Niantic Labs is phrasing its Valentine's Day event as an opportunity to spread the love. So it is currently offering increased spawn rates for its pink monsters.
Some players have been disappointed for snagging Porygon, Chansey and Clefable. The argument is that there is no longer any incentive to gather candies to grow their unevolved versions.
But, come on. Getting these ultra rare adorable beasts within five minutes of gameplay is not too shabby at all.
Gears Of War 4
The Coalition has unleashed a new update to Gears of War 4 this February and it included two new maps and Guardian improvements, among others. This update is complemented by an event that began Feb. 10. Players will be able to earn Gear Packs, which include Valentine-themed items such as the Torque Bow Tag. The bow seems to be associated with a Cupid-themed twist so be sure to get it.
Black Desert Online
The game has a unique Valentine's Day offering as it entails a popularity contest. Players can give their favorite NPCs chocolates. Those who have chosen to gift the winning NPC will be entitled to a bunch of prizes themselves. You can also go on a date in Calpheon City, which will stage a fireworks display on Feb. 14.
Final Fantasy XIV
The game is holding the so-called Valentione's Day event, which involves Lisette de Valentione. You can find her somewhere in Gridania begging for help in her desire to spread love. If you are able to give her a hand, then you will be rewarded with a new emote and a minion. You will also get items that you can use to beautify your home such as the Orchestrion roll and a special vase.
World of Warcraft
Blizzard has prepared a long Valentine's Day event for World of Warcraft players. It began Feb. 7 and will end on Feb. 21. Players, even those on level 20, can participate in existing quests such as Crushing the Crown. Valentine-themed items, heirlooms, mounts, pets and others await the persistent ones. Kill some undead apothecaries, for instance, and you will get heart-shaped boxes.
Unfortunately, Overwatch players are not getting any love this month from Blizzard after the studio stated in a Twitter post that the game chose to go in a different direction this time. This was in response to a player who asked for an event update. The same appears to be true in the case of the looming Easter holiday.
However, those are not written in stone and we will surely update you if there's been a change of heart over at Blizzard.
