The latest update to the Public Test Region of Overwatch includes the new Server Browser, which will allow players to launch games with customized settings and will make the Capture the Flag mode a permanent one in the multiplayer shooter.
The patch notes for the PTR also detailed changes coming to several heroes, including a major buff to the robot Bastion. However, a Redditor discovered a file in the latest PTR update that hints at a new character soon coming to Overwatch.
Is Doomfist Finally Coming To Overwatch?
A Redditor who goes by the username Venxa started a thread on the official Overwatch sub-Reddit regarding one of the files that were added to the PTR in the latest update. The file contains a model of the Numbani stage payload, which houses the gauntlet of Doomfist, with broken glass.
Redditor DontTazeMeBro3 confirmed that the Numbani stage payload in the current live version of Overwatch does not have broken glass, which means that the development team is cooking something up.
According to Overwatch lore, Doomfist is the title given to the wearer of the gauntlet, and there have been at least three people who have taken up the mantle. In addition to the Doomfist gauntlet being the payload for the Numbani stage, the gauntlet has also been previously seen in the Overwatch reveal cinematic as the item that Reaper and Widowmaker were trying to steal. The Hollywood level also features a series of movie posters that showed the various incarnations of Doomfist, and an image of the gauntlet was seen at the end of Sombra's origin story video as a node within the conspiracy web diagram.
With the smashed payload in the PTR, the speculation running rampant is that the gauntlet has been stolen and that Doomfist will soon arrive as a playable character in Overwatch.
Further intensifying rumors on Doomfist is a discovery made by another Redditor, who goes by the username DeadGirlDreaming. In a separate thread started on the Overwatch sub-Reddit, it was revealed that a new music track was added to the PTR that sounds like menu music. The track is the same one that was playing in the game's reveal cinematic during the part when Reaper and Widowmaker were attempting to take the Doomfist gauntlet, making it another hint on the arrival of a new hero.
When Will Doomfist Arrive?
While Blizzard is dropping hints that Doomfist will soon be arriving to Overwatch, there is no definite date on when players can expect the new hero to be released. It will be sooner rather than later, as the changes have already been made on the PTR, but hopefully, the reveal of Doomfist will not be as convoluted as what Blizzard did for Sombra.
Terry Crews, the star of the hit comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, recently mocked an audition to voice Doomfist. It is not a secret that the actor wants the role, but if Blizzard needs for someone to lend his voice to the new hero, gamers will absolutely love it if Crews is indeed tapped to do so.
