Harambe has become something of a national treasure. So much so that someone really just spent $10,000 on a Flamin' Hot Cheeto in the shape of Harambre that was up for bidding on eBay.
People have shelled out some serious cash for food items that resemble holy figures like the Virgin Mary grilled cheese that sold on eBay for $28,000 back in 2004 and its knock off Jesus toast, along with a Corn Flake in the shape of Illinois that sold for $1,350.
But this latest eBay listing goes to show that the Internet's love affair with the late gorilla has reached a whole new level of crazy.
Ebay user valuestampsinc posted a listing for the Cheeto last week after finding that it oddly resembled Harambe the gorilla.
"I opened up a bag of Flamin' Hot Cheetos and as soon as I looked inside I came across this unique Cheetos that looks like Harambe the gorilla," the eBay seller writes. "This item is one of a kind! This makes a great collectible for anyone who appreciates rare items!"
He added that the Cheeto for bidding is just a single Cheeto and not the whole bag, measuring at about 1 1/2 inches in length.
He initially listed the Harambe-shaped Cheeto for just $11.99, but now Tuesday morning, the piece of food was sold for $99,900 when bidding closed.
More than 100 offers on the Flamin' Hot Harambe Cheeto helped to increase the price to just under $100,000.
There is no returns on this item, so the lucky winner better hope it doesn't get crushed during delivery from Burbank, CA. On the plus side, it's just under $10,000 price tag comes with free shipping.
This is the Internet, so there is always the possibility the posting and its winning bid price is all just one big hoax orchestrated by a group of people, but it seems pretty legit since the seller has 100 percent positive feedback.
Just goes to show us how much Harambe meant to so many people, but at least those can find peace knowing that he lives in all around us, even in our snack food.
The listing has resulted in other "rare" Hamabre Cheetos listing being posted on eBay.
Hamabre found fame after the 17-year-old gorilla was shot and killed in his habitat at the Cincinnati Zoo after a child got into his enclosure. He then became one of the most popular memes of 2016, with T-shirts, posters and pins being made in his honor.
The Flamin' Hot Cheeto will forever go down as the rarest Hamabre collector's item of them all.
