This is why you don't try to carbonate wine

You know those machines you can get to create your own carbonated drinks at home? They look kind of like extra-tall milkshake machines. People have tried carbonating all sorts of things with them, to varying degrees of success.

One kid was thinking about those machines and what they do, and he came up with an interesting idea. Might wine + carbonating machine = sparkling wine? Could it work?

Well...

Wait for it.

Yes, that was the kid's dad behind the camera, who very likely knew what was going to happen. So at least we don't have to worry about the poor kid getting in trouble for making that horrible mess.

So why did it explode? A helpful Redditor explains that it's because wine is more acidic than water. Water allows CO to dissolve, becoming bicarbonate. Wine prevents most of the CO² from dissolving this way, so all that pressure builds up until... boom.

Don't try it at home, kids.
