'Prey' To Release On May 5: New Gameplay Trailer Showcases Shapeshifting Abilities And Powerful Weapons

Prey, the reimagining of the 2006 game after Prey 2 was cancelled following a two-year development, was finally given a release date by publisher Bethesda.

Bethesda has also launched a new gameplay trailer for the first-person shooter, providing a more detailed look on what gamers can expect from the alien warfare title.

Prey To Launch On May 5

According to Bethesda, Prey will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 5. This confirms that expected 2017 launch date for the game, which is one of the most anticipated titles for the year.

Prey, a surprise announcement at E3 2016, is being developed by Arkane Studios, the team behind the popular Dishonored franchise. The title has a different story compared to the original Prey, but the premise remains the same, with the player's character waking up in a spacecraft infested by vicious aliens.

The protagonist, Morgan Yu, needs to survive the onslaught of aliens known as Typhons, which have overrun the Talos I spacecraft after experiments went horribly wrong. Players will have to kill off all the aliens in the spacecraft before it reaches the Earth and unleashes the aliens on the planet.

New Gameplay Trailer For Prey

In the gameplay trailer, it is revealed that the experiments being done in the Talos I involved installing so-called Neuromods into people, allowing them to gain powers that are based on the Typhons. However, with the aliens escaping containment, Yu is now tasked with cleaning up the spacecraft.

There are several different kinds of Typhon that are shown in the gameplay trailer, including the Mimic, which is capable of copying almost any object inside the space station. Players will be able to acquire this power for themselves, allowing them to copy objects that are of the same or lesser mass than them. The trailer showcases a more powerful version of the ability that allows Yu to transform into a turret to eradicate aliens.

In addition to the shapeshifting abilities that will be present in Prey, the gameplay trailer also reveals some of the guns that will be part of the arsenal of players. Among the weapons shown are the GLOO Gun, which can both seal dangerous leaks and pin down enemies, the Q-Beam, the S4 Tactical Pump Shotgun, and a handy wrench to simply bash in an alien's head.

Prey Preorder Bonus

In addition to the release date and new gameplay trailer, Bethesda also revealed the Cosmonaut Shotgun Pack, which will be exclusively available to players who will preorder Prey.

Included in the package are three Neuromods that will allow players to gain abilities, two medkits, a recycler shielding chipset, and the awesome-looking Margrave Shotgun, along with its ammo plans and starter fabrication materials. The recycler shielding chipset is an important item for players, as the upgrade allows for the preservation of resources, which is scarce on Talos I.

Will Prey prove to be an even better version of the original game, or will it not be able to reach the expectations of gamers? We will find out in just over three months.
