Everything We Know About Bethesda's 'Prey'

Lots of eyes turned to E3 on June 12 as Bethesda kicked off events with its presentation to announce what it had in store for gamers in the next year or so.

As expected, Bethesda spent much of the presentation talking about new content for Fallout 4, showing off gameplay for Dishonored 2 and announcing a remastered version of The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim.

But perhaps the biggest surprise came when the company announced something that no one expected: a reimagining of the 2006 science fiction first-person shooter Prey.

There aren't a lot of details about Prey out there yet, but here's what we know so far:

It's A Reimagining Of The 2006 Prey

The original Prey was released in 2006 and told the story of characters abducted onto an alien spaceship known as "The Sphere." In the game, players explore the spacecraft and fight its inhabitants while collecting alien weapons.

In Bethesda's Prey, the story has changed, but still remains similar in many aspects: the player takes on the role of a character who awakens on board a spacecraft and must uncover its secrets while being hunted by aliens.

"Arkane Studios, the team behind the critically acclaimed Dishonored series, is bringing their unique vision to Prey, a first-person sci-fi action game that reimagines the franchise from the ground up ... with an added psychological twist," Bethesda writes in a press release.

It Takes Place On A Space Station

In Bethesda's Prey, players become Morgan Yu, a man currently being experimented on in an effort to improve the human race. Morgan lives on the Talos I, a space station orbiting the moon in 2032. Those experiments, though, have gone horribly wrong and now the space station is overrun with aliens. Morgan must explore the space station to learn about its "dark secrets," as well as survive his ordeal by using the tools available on the station and his own wits.

Prey Looks A Lot Different From Bethesda's Other Games

One of the first things players will notice in watching the trailer is that Prey looks and feels a lot different from other Bethesda titles. This is not the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout or the sprawling fantasy world of The Elder Scrolls: this is a futuristic shooter that almost looks and feels a lot like Dead Space.

Platform And Release

There isn't a definitive release date for Prey yet, but Bethesda announced that it will arrive on PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 2017.
