Chrisley Knows Best star and patriarch of the Chrisley family, Todd Chrisley has defended his daughter Savannah Chrisley against accusations of texting and driving made by online bullies. Savannah suffered serious injuries last week when her car smashed into a guardrail as she tried to fix a stuck floor mat that prevented her from using the vehicle's brakes.
Savannah Chrisley In Serious Car Crash
The hit reality show Chrisley Knows Best is one of the most popular and long-running series on cable. The USA network show is set to enter its fifth season next month, but last week, the family that stars in the series suffered a huge blow. One of stars, Savannah, had a serious car accident that left her hospitalized.
Savannah posted a picture on Instagram of the wrecked vehicle along with an image of herself bandaged in the hospital bed. She explained that the accident resulted from her attempt to fix a floor mat that had gotten stuck beneath her brakes, preventing her from fully engaging them. As she looked down in an attempt to adjust the mat, she headed into a guardrail. Fortunately, the airbags deployed, and Savannah was wearing her seatbelt, but she suffered a broken vertebrae and other injuries.
Online Bullies Troll Chrisleys
Soon, online bullies began blaming her for the crash, some of whom claimed the accident was actually a result of Savannah texting and driving, although there is absolutely no substantiation for those accusations. Now, Todd has spoken out to defend his daughter, explaining that he himself checked her phone after the crash.
"People were coming on my social media and saying, 'I wonder if you'll be spending as much on her funeral as you do her cars,'" said Todd. "What happened was an accident. Anyone who watches the show knows I monitor my kids' phones. What do you think the first thing I did once I knew she was okay? I checked that phone. And the last call that she had was to me, before I went to bed. The last text message she sent out was 44 minutes before she had her wreck."
Savannah, who also made an appearance with her dad and brother Grayson in the most recent Sharknado film, is expected to fully recover in 6 weeks with no long-term side effects.
Chrisley Knows Best has become one of the core programs on the USA network, and the family show receives such good ratings, even with marathon repeat showings, which USA has been commissioning large numbers of episodes with a very short downtime between seasons. The 2016 season, which began in the spring and wrapped up in November, consisted of 26 episodes, and the new season is already set to premiere in February. There's no word yet on whether the production or broadcast schedule will be affected by Savannah's injuries.
