A smartphone fit for kings and queens or maybe just the uber rich or uber materialistic. The Savelli Champagne Diamond smartphone has a tag price of $57,000. For such money, one can buy around 142 iPhone 5s or a 2014 Mercedes-Benz E350 sedan and still have some change to buy 10 more iPhone 5c units. It is a smartphone that does not only make eyes pop and jaws drop but make one wonder if there are really people willing to spend so much money on a handset.
The Savelli Champagne Diamonds luxury smartphone may be one of the most expensive blinged unit to be marketed. Its specs sheet reveal that it runs on Google's Android, has 32GB of memory, micro USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi capability, has GSM Quadband coverage, and 3G compatibility. It can also sync with a PC or a Mac. Nothing spectacular under the hood. However, the designer phone is not about what lies under the hood but rather what lies on it.
The phone designed by Switzerland-based Alessandro Savelli comes studded with 395 white diamonds while the casing is crafted from 18-carat rose gold. Its screen is made from scratch-proof sapphire crystal.
"We carefully select the best diamonds and set them using the 'serti neige' or 'snow setting' technique.' Stones of differing diameters sit side-by-side, covering the precious metal to enhance the organic curves of each piece. Where baguette diamonds are used, Savelli employs a seamless setting technique for an immaculate finish," the Savelli design house described its work.
While the Champagne Diamond might be the priciest, the Geneva-based designer offers other luxury handsets from his Jardin Secret Collection with 11 handsets designed with precious metals, exotic skins and scales, and jewels as their primary elements.
According to the Savelli website, the White Ice smartphone, for example, is crafted from 18-carat rose gold and white alligator leather. The Emerald Iguana, as the name suggests, has emerald iguana leather. There is also the Python with python leather elements incorporated to its design; Blue Jeans Ostrich (ostrich leather); Classic Caramel (Nappa leather); Diamond Rain (iguana leather); Diamond Night (with 395 diamonds and black satin); Black Sport (black alligator rubberized leather); Black Insane (75 diamonds and stainless steel); and Ardent Red (red alligator leather).
In the United Kingdom, the line of luxury smartphones are sold at Harrods.
