AT&T will be releasing the HTC Desire EYE on November 7, with a price tag of $149 with a two-year contract, $549 off-contract, or $22.92 using AT&T Next.
The new phone will be joined by a product called the RE camera, a portable camera that is waterproof and syncs with the users smartphone. The RE will cost $199, however AT&T customers will be able to save $50 on it if they purchase the HTC Desire EYE.
"Feast your eyes on the selfie-optimized HTC Desire EYE. With a stylish design, amazing features, and a quad-core processor, it's the only smartphone you'll need for work or play," said AT&T in a statement. "...A remarkable little camera. Featuring a 16 megapixel camera and wide-angle lens, pairs with any iPhone or Android smartphone. Just grab, point and shoot."
The HTC Desire EYE features a similar design as the HTC One M8 and boasts a Snapdragon 801 processor, a 5.2-inch Full-HD display and a 2,400mAh battery. It also features HTC's BoomSound speakers and 16GB of storage, with support for a microSD card of up to 128GB.
The main selling point of the device, however, is its camera. The HTD Desire EYE features two 13MP cameras, one found on the front and the other on the back, making this device perfect for the selfie-takers among us. In fact, even for those who aren't too into selfies, 13MP is better than many other smartphone offerings on the market.
"Optimized for taking selfies, HTC Desire EYE is AT&T's first smartphone with a 13MP front-facing camera and a dual LED flash, said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president of device marketing and developer service at AT&T. "Both HTC Desire EYE and RE have many great features that allow you to capture your moments - all on the nation's most reliable 4G LTE network, covering more than 300 million Americans."
Those wanting to take their smartphone photography to the next level should also take a look at the RE camera, which is being marketed as a competitor to the GoPro. The device can shoot 16MP still photos and 1080p video, and is completely waterproof, making it great for the more adventurous.
AT&T has made a number of product announcements in the past few days. The company announced that they would be selling the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. Those interested, however, will have to fork out a small fortune at around $1000. AT&T also announced the LG G Watch R with a price tag of $299.99. A competitor to the G Watch R, the Motorola Moto 360 will also be sold through AT&T starting on November 7 with a price tag of $250. If purchased with a second-generation Moto X, however, the company will give users a $50 discount.
