Rumors pertaining to the alleged Nokia P1 from HMD Global have surfaced online intermittently and now, the grapevine is abuzz that the Android-powered handset could debut this February.
According to latest reports, HMD Global is all set to launch the premium Nokia smartphone soon. The phone will apparently be unveiled at the MWC 2017 - Nokia has an event scheduled for Feb. 26 - and supposedly runs on the Android platform.
With only the Nokia 6 has been officially announced, it is exciting to know that the company may potentially rev things up by throwing the P1 into the fray.
The Rumored Specs
The Nokia P1 will reportedly sport a 5.3-inch IGZO screen and deploy Gorilla Glass 5. The resolution for the smartphone is not known but expected to be 2560 x 1440 pixels. The phablet may be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor.
The handset may also boast 6 GB of RAM and be equipped with 128 GB and 256 GB of on-board storage. It is not known whether the Nokia P1 will offer an expandable memory option.
The primary camera of the Nokia P1 is anticipated to be 22.6 megapixels, which also deploys Carl Zeiss optics.
The Nokia smartphone could also feature a 3500 mAh battery with Quick Charge support. The P1 could also have a fingerprint scanner, which will not be embedded in the home button or the rear of the device. Instead, the sensor will allegedly be placed on the right side of the handset.
The Nokia P1 may possibly come pre-loaded with Android 7.0 Nougat and rumors that the smartphone may be waterproof and dust resistant will be an added bonus.
According to Russian website Worket, the Nokia P1 would be based on the Sharp Aquos Xx3, a phone which was released in Japan nearly six months ago.
Foxconn, the manufacturer for Nokia's new handsets, was also in charge of producing the Sharp smartphones. This lends more strength to the rumor that the P1 is going to be based on a Sharp phone.
The Price
The 128 GB version of the Nokia P1 is expected to be priced at $800, whereas the 256 GB variant may set consumers back by $950.
What Does The Future Hold For Nokia?
HMD Global, the company responsible for the development and marketing of Nokia's Android phones had already confirmed its presence at the MWC 2017. It will be sharing the stage with Nokia on Feb. 26.
Nokia reportedly has six to seven smartphones in the pipeline and the Nokia P1 may well be its flagship. With the phone boasting top-notch specs and features per leaks, the Nokia P1 is expected to be a power-packed performer and may steal the show at the MWC 2017.
This smartphone may induce nostalgia amongst old timers, as Nokia will be launching the P1 under its own banner, rather than under Microsoft. For many, the brand Nokia is synonymous with reliability. Nokia will look to tug at these sentiments, as it moves towards the goal of recapturing the smartphone market.
