Verizon, AT&T vie for attention of new subscribers: Eat more data for same price

Verizon's original 10GB plan at $100 is now cut at $80 a month. Likewise, its 15GB at $110 is reduced to $100 a month.

AT&T is also enhancing data plan options. For $40, the previously offered 2GB is now increased at 3GB. The 6GB data option previously priced at $80 is now set at a lower rate of $70. There are no expiration dates prescribed for the plans. The other data plans are $20 for 300MB and $25 for 1GB.

AT&T has also extended its "Double the Data" offer for Mobile Share plans of higher data, which start at 15GB a month. Under the latest promo, customers that have subscribed with monthly shared data plans of 15GB will be getting a data of 30GB. Those who are on data plans of 20GB, 30GB, 40GB and 50GB will get an increase in their data to 40GB, 60GB, 80GB and 100GB, respectively.

"Beginning Sunday, Nov. 2, AT&T is enhancing its Mobile Share Value plan portfolio with two new plans," says AT&T. "We're giving customers more data to share on two of our plans, so now you can get 3GB for $40 a month and 6GB for $70 a month, plus device access charges."

All of AT&T's data plans include unlimited talk and text and unlimited international messaging.

The new pricing schemes of the two carriers came following Sprint's introduction of its double data offer in October. Sprint's latest offer features 20GB for $100, which is double the 10GB allotment of T-Mobile under the same price point.

Verizon announced the new pricing scheme on its blog, while AT&T gave out a press release on the new prices.

Apart from the new subscription plans, Verizon is also rewarding those who are switching over from a competitor. New subscribers who will sign a two-year contract for the Edge plan or ported-over number will be given a credit of $150 per line.

"We know that no matter how much data you have, it's only as good as the network it's on, and Verizon Wireless' network is second to none," said Ken Dixon, chief marketing officer at Verizon Wireless. "We know our customers -- from families to businesses -- crave more data to help them keep up with their busy lifestyles, and these new promotions, together with other offers like our industry-leading trade-in program, give them even more during the month of October."

All of Verizon's data plans are offered with unlimited talk and text.
