Rumor has it that the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy S8 will come with IP68 ratings. The launch of the iPhone 8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 are among the most anticipated tech events of 2017.
The tech market is already full of rumors which suggest that the iPhone 8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 will get the highest known capability available for dust and water protection.
According to a report from The Investor, an industry insider has revealed that the impending successor of the iPhone 7 will be waterproof.
"Apple's iPhone 8 will feature the IP68 rating protection as part of drastic upgrades marking the 10th anniversary of the iPhone this year," revealed the source to the publication.
For the unfamiliar, an IP68 certified device can stay under 5 feet of water for 30 minutes.
Samsung has already upped its game by incorporating the IP68 certification in its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, on the other hand, has an IP67 certification, which ensures water protection of up to three feet.
Rumors also suggest that Apple plans to go all out in 2017, as this year marks its iPhone's tenth anniversary.
Rumored iPhone 8 Specs
Apple is rumored to be opting for a stainless steel body in place of an aluminum chassis. The stainless steel case was last used in Apple iPhone 4 after which the company opted for aluminum chassis for iPhone 5 and later models.
Rumors also hint that iPhone 8 will also feature a curved OLED screen similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. This feature will be a variation from the earlier iPhone models as they sport a LED screen.
The upcoming iPhone may get launched in three variants according to the buzz in the market. Rumors are rife that Apple will launch two 4.7-inch models with TFT-LCD screen and one bigger model with a 5.5-inch OLED screen.
The upcoming iPhone will also feature an edge-to-edge display as suggested by a patent which has been granted to Apple recently. It is expected that the iPhone 8 may contain a 10-nanometer proprietary A11 chip under its hood to make the device faster and more efficient than its previous models.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Decided To Adopt Water Resistance Certification In Lower Models
Samsung, which has already incorporated the IP68 certification in its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, is rumored to include the said functionality in the upcoming Galaxy S8 as well.
Given that water resistance and dust proofing of smartphones has now become a major requirement in the market, Samsung has decided to adopt the IP68 certification is some of its lower-end models as well. Models like the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, and Galaxy A7 may also get IP68 certification.
