Rumors of the iPhone 8 have been doing the rounds soon after the release of the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus in September this year. Analysts are also making predictions about what to expect in the next-generation iPhone, which is expected to be launched in the fall of 2017.
Dual-Lens Camera In iPhones
The dual-lens camera setup in mobile phones is getting popular in the smartphone market. However, the iPhone 7 Plus is the only Apple handset that boasts the feature.
"The dual 12-megapixel cameras also enable a new depth-of-field effect, using both cameras on iPhone 7 Plus to capture images, while sophisticated technology including Machine Learning separates the background from the foreground to achieve amazing portraits once possible only with DSLR cameras," says Apple.
Next-Gen iPhone With Dual-Lens Camera Setup
Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst with KGI Securities, estimates that Apple will include a dual-lens camera setup in the next iPhones and they will support dual optical image stabilization. According to Kuo, Apple is also expected to redesign the telephoto lens, which will improve the optical image zoom capabilities and photo quality.
"We expect the telephoto lens will be redesigned to support OIS in the telephoto CCM, with challenges likely coming from: (1) the need to increase the image circle of the telephoto lens, which will lead to longer calibration time and a more complex assembly processes; and (2) a redesign of the telephoto lens, as an increased image circle will result in degraded photo quality around the corners," says Kuo.
Which Next-Gen iPhones Will Get Dual-Lens Camera Setup
Kuo hints Apple may introduce three iPhones in 2017: a 5.1-inch or 5.2-inch OLED screen model, a 5.5-inch variant with LCD display and a 4.7-inch version with LCD display. The 4.7-inch iPhone 7 does not include a dual-lens camera setup and Kuo believes that the 4.7-inch iPhone 8 will not be equipped with it either.
iPhones do not need selling but fans are always curious to know about the expected features of the next iPhone. The iPhone 8 will be the 10th anniversary edition and it is likely that the company will introduce a number of changes to the upcoming handset. Previous reports suggest that the next-gen iPhones could have a new design, no home button, thinner bezels, enhanced processor and higher RAM capacity, bigger battery for more usage time, additional color options and more.
Apple has not revealed any details of the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus. It is too early to make predictions of the next iPhones and customers should take all rumors with a pinch of salt.
