Yacht Club Games has just dropped a welcome news for Shovel Knight fans out there. The title will be heading to Nintendo Switch, but most importantly, the developer also claims to be cooking some pretty big things this year.
Shovel Knight At Switch
If you head to Yacht Club Games' blog and successfully parsed the surreal official statement there, you'd first learn that Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment are both heading to Nintendo Switch.
You can read through the entire piece, and after jumping back and forth paragraphs, you will conclude that, yes, there is no official schedule yet for this port.
The developers have noted that they are so busy tinkering with new stuff that there is simply no time to explain about this development yet, so we might as well move on to the other juicy bits.
Name Change
Wedged in the middle of the announcements is the claim that Shovel Knight will be known as Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove.
While that is not quite the most earth-shaking transformation in the world, it articulates the overarching changes and plans that the developers are clearly very excited about.
This is perhaps the trick to completely wrap your head around the mind-boggling revelations, which — truth be told — is quite characteristic of this Shovel Knight business.
What's In Store For The New Shovel Knight
It seems that Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove will now be a bundle of Shovel Knight games. Consider it Yacht Club Games' way of rearranging the scheme of things in the Shovel Knight universe.
The games will include the original title, which has been renamed as Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope, as well as other standalone games, Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows and Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment. This last is currently in development.
Shovel Knight Price Increase
The new naming convention will officially commence this spring, and to commemorate it, Yacht Club Games will ask players for a higher price. Shovel Knight is presently sold for $15, and the developers have not yet declared how much their new efforts are worth.
"If you haven't picked up Shovel Knight yet and want all the content included within Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, buy it now before the price increases this Spring! Or pick a selection of the standalone versions for a cheaper price!" Yacht Club Games said.
The motivation for the new pricing seems different way back when the developer was forced to jack up the game's price just to secure a space in store shelves. Nintendo Switch players will most likely pay the new price.
To be fair, Treasure Trove will also include new content such as the Body Swap Mode, which adds the body-swap capability to the Shovel Knight's campaign. There is also the King Knight's campaign and the Battle Mode content coming in the latter part of 2017. These standalone games will be treated as free updates if you have purchased Treasure Trove.
