Teen who tried to kill her family to undergo forensic exam

Roksana Sikorski has been ordered to undergo a forensic exam, as the 15-year-old faces charges for attempted murder of her younger brother.

Michael Angelo Rivera, her 23-year-old boyfriend, stayed outside the home in Plymouth Township, Michigan, as Sikorski allegedly stabbed her brother in the neck, according to police. The assault by the student at Plymouth-Canton Community Schools took place on October 17.

Sikorski is said to suffer from post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, and testing will determine if she is competent to stand trial.

Judge Michael Gerou in Michigan's Plymouth District Court ordered both Sikorski and Rivera to undergo psychological examinations, to determine if they can be tried for attempted murder and other crimes related to the incident.

Police allege the teenage girl texted Rivera before the attempted murder, seeking guidance in her actions.

"According to the report filed by the Western Wayne (Law Enforcement) Task Force, Roksana Sikorski asked her boyfriend 'is this sharp enough?' referring to the 6-8-inch filet knife police say the 15-year-old allegedly used to stab her younger brother in the neck," the Detroit News reported, based on records obtained by the media outlet.

According to reports, Roksana's younger sister, aged 11, yelled out "Lucas just got stabbed by Roxy" as the actions were taking place, at around 2 a.m. local time. Each of the younger siblings of the teen showed up in court, in case they were called to testify in the hearing.

The knife attack caused "major bleeding," according to statements from police.

After the incident, the teenage girl allegedly jumped out a window, sustaining a slight injury. She is said to have fled the property with her boyfriend, and the two were picked up by friends of the male cohort. The group then drove to the southwest corner of Detroit, where Rivera and Sikorski were arrested. The other people in the car were not apprehended, or charged with any crime.

Leslie Posner, the attorney representing the young woman, is seeking to have Sikorski charged as a juvenile, although the prosecution states the facts in the case warrant trial as an adult.

The prosecution in the case is accusing the pair of attempting to murder Sikorski's entire family. Possible charges of rape against Rivera have been dropped, angering some members of Sikorski's family. The pair met on Facebook in March.

Sikorski may suffer from PTSD from living in an abusive home ten years ago, before being adopted by Jefferey and Laurene Sikorski. The adoptive parents say they have never met Rivera, and only learned of his existence when she ran away to be with her new boyfriend in July.
