Surprise! 'Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare' has a zombie mode

It's rare for a major video game release to keep major features secret, but Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare came mighty close. Just ahead of the game's "Day Zero" release on Monday comes a leak revealing that like Call of Duty installments in the past, Advanced Warfare will have zombies in some shape or form.

The leak comes from Reddit via a leaked trailer. Activision has already taken down the trailer multiple times, but it continues to pop back up. The fact that Activision is going out of their way to shut down the leak seems to confirm that the below video is in fact the real deal. Watch it before it's gone:

At first glance you might believe you are watching footage from a World War Z video game. Fast moving zombies sweep over a military compound as a soldier attempts to escape in a helicopter, all in first person. Once aboard, another soldier turns to the camera and asks frantically if they've been bit as zombies leap at the helicopter.

It's currently unknown if the trailer is for a new zombie mode or plays some role in the single-player campaign. Considering that three Call of Duty titles have included a cooperative zombie mode and last year's Call of Duty: Ghosts featured a similar mode in which players fought ancient monsters, it seems safe to assume Advanced Warfare will probably have a mode along the same lines.

Developer Sledgehammer Games isn't saying much, but the co-founder of the studio behind the latest Call of Duty did seem to confirm that the footage is real. This is what he had to say when asked about the leak on Twitter:

When the initial Game Informer cover reveal for Advanced Warfare leaked early, Activision decided to go ahead with an earlier-than-planned unveiling of the game. Whether or not the game publisher will decide to do something similar in this scenario, or try to surprise the majority of players when the game is released starting Nov. 3, remains to be seen.
