Start watching the latest trailer for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and you might at first think you are watching gameplay footage. Watch a little longer and you'll see that the trailer is actually live-action, but filmed from the first person perspective the game series is known for.
After getting punched in the face (it's honestly kind of jarring), the trailer puts the viewers in the boots of a soldier from Advanced Warfare and shows off some of the impressive exo-suit abilities players will have at their disposal in the game. Whether it's punching down doors, leaping through the air or dashing behind cover, the trailer truly plays out like an action set-piece from the franchise.
The video, titled "Discover Your Power," is a nice change of pace from the usual video game marketing, which more often than not features expensive CGI trailers that show little actual footage of the game in action. While this trailer isn't gameplay, it definitely gives the feeling of it. It's probably safe to assume that there won't be any first person goat kissing in Advanced Warfare, but who knows?
Call of Duty isn't a stranger to live-action trailers. The series has spawned a number of live-action ads over the years, going all the way back to 2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops. More often than not they include a number of celebrity appearances, ranging from Robert Downey Jr. to Jimmy Kimmel. Call of Duty publisher Activision also made sure to create a live-action trailer for Destiny, the company's other end of the year blockbuster.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare releases on Nov. 4 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. Those who preorder the game will be granted access to the "Day Zero" edition, getting the game a day early.
