PLAY: Netflix Just Developed A Game With 8-Bit Versions Of Your Favorite Characters

Netflix looks like it's onto something again as a new game, Netflix Infinite Runner, can now be played by fans of Netflix original shows.

As the title suggests, it is a basic infinite runner game where you simply have to jump over barriers and snag goodies to stay alive and keep playing the game.

What's fun about this one, though, is that you get to play as 8-bit versions of your favorite characters from their original shows, such as Mike Wheeler from Stranger Things and Pablo Escobar from Narcos.

The setting of the game takes place in the fictional world of the character you have chosen. The game, however, still lags a little and features only four of their most popular characters.

The Netflix Revolution

Before Netflix came along with award-winning original shows, network television thrived on the thrill of the cliffhanger, which some loved and others hated. Waiting for a week for the next episode (or even months for the next season!) was what drove many people who watched network TV or subscribed to cable to spend hours on the couch to watch their favorite shows.

Watching on demand, however, made the Netflix business model successful. In fact, from starting out as a mail DVD rental service, Netflix has now bagged numerous major nominations and awards from prestigious award-giving bodies such as the Golden Globes.

Netflix has become a household name for years now, bringing in excellent entertainment to our homes, and it's not surprising given the kind of shows that it produces. From the controversial Breaking Bad to the eerie Stranger Things, Netflix does not disappoint.

However, this kind of quality, groundbreaking programming is also what makes Netflix original series so iconic. Long after a show ends, you are sure to find fans who are still eagerly streaming old episodes. That is the power of on-demand viewing.

The platform has a way of playing out our nostalgia for old shows. Programs that have already ended on network or cable TV may still be given a new lease on life.

Netflix, for instance, recently rebooted Full House and Gilmore Girls much to the delight of fans.

The company has also created the Netflix Switch, a button that allows viewers "to dim the lights, turn on their phone's Do Not Disturb feature, and even order food" to get that perfect ambience for their binge watching session.

A Fair Reminder Before Binge-Watching

Binge watching has become the new normal for many patrons of Netflix, and anyone can see the advantages of not having to wait for yet another week just to catch the next episode of a favorite show. Of course, there are questions as to the effects of this new habit on physical and mental health.

A study published in 2015 found that TV viewing and, in particular, binge watching "is associated with poor mental and physical health outcomes."
