Samsung has officially announced the ultraslim Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3. The smartphones are optimized for social networking and feature a full metal unibody design.
Samsung just addressed the high-end phablet space with the recent release of the Galaxy Note 4 and now the company is targeting young consumers with its just-announced Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 smartphones. Samsung says that the price-conscious handsets offer a refined, trendy design and have been optimized for social networking.
"The Galaxy A5 and A3 offer a beautifully crafted full metal unibody, slim design, superior hardware and the best possible social media experience," said JK Shin, CEO and head of IT & Mobile Communication at Samsung Electronics. "These devices make our advanced Galaxy experience even more accessible to young and trend-conscious consumers."
The Galaxy A5 and A3 are Samsung's thinnest smartphones ever, at 6.7 mm and 6.9 mm, and feature a premium full metal unibody design. The smartphones come equipped with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with advanced imaging features, like Wide Selfie, Palm Selfie, Animated GIF, and more to provide "unmatched selfies."
The Samsung Galaxy A5 features a 5-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, and has 2 GB of RAM. It includes 16 GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 64-GB microSD cards. Its camera capabilities consist of a 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash and 5-megapixel front-facing shooter. The A5's dimensions are 139.3 x 69.7 x 6.7mm, it weighs 123g and it packs in a 2,300 mAh battery.
The Samsung Galaxy A3 features a 4.5-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, and it has 1 GB of RAM. It includes 16 GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 64-GB microSD cards. The smartphone has an 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash and 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The A3's dimensions are 130.1 x 65.5 x 6.9mm, it weighs 110.3g and ships with a 1,900 mAh battery.
The Samsung Galaxy A5 and A3 will be available in China and other select markets starting in November. We'll keep you posted on when and if the metal-clad smartphones will be released in the U.S.
