A crew of self-described game detectives finally tracked the mysterious title called Frog Fractions 2 embedded in a new game released at Steam this December. This culminated a two-year search after Jim Crawford announced that the sequel to his viral Frog Fractions browser game will be integrated inside another title.
The game hosting Frog Fractions 2 turned out to be Glittermitten Grove, which has a cryptic statement serving as its description at Steam.
"Just like the faeries in your garden, we love collecting berries for our prickleberry loaves and finding treasure with our special fribblesham fireworks," it said. "Come join us in our faerieland, full of strange adventure!"
As of this writing, Crawford's connection to its publisher or to the game's development itself is not yet clear.
The Tale Of The Frog Fractions Hunt
Crawford's announcement and the Kickstarter campaign he launched to develop Frog Fractions 2 has piqued the curiosity of several gamers. A number of these banded together, comparing notes and picking up breadcrumbs that Crawford must have been gleefully leaving behind.
The game sleuths have been quite persistent to the point that their zeal spawned a meme wherein every unknown title that surfaces at Steam got asked whether it is Frog Fractions 2. This is also not surprising since Crawford has created an elaborate alternate reality game (ARG) initiative that sought to lead the detectives to Frog Fractions 2 once it is finally released.
By December, everything came to a head when one of the game detectives unlocked a puzzle that earned him a locked box via snail mail. There are two ways to access Frog Fractions 2. The easy method involves the use of fireworks, a clue provided in the game's very description. You need to use it to dig for "treasure" which will include a door that will transport you to Frog Fractions 2.
The second approach is more roundabout. You will be able to enter the game through a door in the sky. The only way to reach it is by playing Glittermitten Grove. In the game, players sow magic seeds, pick berries and collect sparkles as the faeries prepare for the winter.
