What To Expect From Sony's CES 2017 Conference: Snapdragon 820 Phones, SmartWatch 4 And More

Sony has officially announced that it will host its Consumer Electronics Show (CES) press conference on Jan. 4, 2017, set to reveal new products ahead of the CES, which officially starts Jan. 5.

Here's what to expect when the company makes its headway to one of the biggest shows in tech.

New Xperia Phones

Sony will show off two new Xperia phones, according to reports, bearing the internal model numbers G3121 and G3112. The two smartphones in question were first reported in October when the company registered the two phones under a Russian regulatory body.

Not much was extracted out of the listings, though recent rumors have pinned the phone as sporting Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processors, which elevates the phones into high-end offerings. They are also reported to rock 5.2- and 5.5-inch displays, respectively, but it goes without saying that anything from the rumor mill should be contested.

There's also a chance that Sony might give a progress report on the Xperia X line's roadmap for Nougat, since it was announced in October that a lot of them will be receiving the software update.

SmartWatch 4

The company's smartwatch line could also see a refresh with the rumored Smartwatch 4, since the SmartWatch 3 is now 2 years old, ancient by today's standards. If Sony does reveal the new smartwatch, then it'll most likely come with Android Wear 2.0, but details about the software itself have been scant, and development might not be going smoothly, with the software having been delayed to 2017.

4K OLED TVs

It wouldn't be a Sony press conference without it lugging new TV models like clockwork, so it'll likely introduce a 4K OLED TV at CES, a rumor supported by Forbes. Not only that, but Sony is expected to launch two of them, in 55- and 65-inch versions, priced at $1,999 and $2,999, respectively. Barry Young, CEO of the OLED Association, seems to have confirmed the rumor.

Sony's CES Conference happens Jan. 4, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. PST in Las Vegas. Viewers at home who can't be there, however, may tune in via livestream on the said date to watch Sony's unveilings firsthand.

CES is a global electronic and consumer tradeshow that takes place every January in Nevada. This year's CES takes place Jan. 5 to Jan. 8, 2017 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
