Motorola official Android 5.0 Lollipop release update: Will your smartphone see an upgrade, and when?

Motorola has confirmed that many of its previously released smartphones will receive an upgrade to its Android 5.0 Lollipop mobile operating system. The company created a page where customers can check out which devices will get Lollipop.

Google has confirmed that Android 5.0 Lollipop will be in customer's hands on Nov. 3. This is the date that the company's latest flagship tablet, the HTC-built Nexus 9, will be released. While the Nexus 9 will be the first tablet to ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop, Google's 5.96-inch Motorola-built Nexus 6 phablet will be the first smartphone to have the company's latest and greatest OS out of the gate.

The 5.96-inch phablet will be making its way to all five major U.S. carriers, in addition to Google selling the Nexus 6 on its Play Store unlocked. We just reported that T-Mobile is expected to begin selling the Nexus 6 on Nov. 12 and will keep you posted on when the other carriers will launch their Nexus 6 phablet.

While the Nexus 6 hasn't started shipping from Google yet, the phablet made an appearance on GFXBench prior to Google announcing it and the device came out on top in some areas, where it outperformed Apple's flagship iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, as well as many top Android smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S5, Google Nexus 5, HTC One M8, and LG G3.

The impressive score is believed to stem from Google's use of top-of-the-line specs, as it does on all of its Nexus smartphones and tablets, and the fact that the Nexus 6 is the only smartphone in the test running Android 5.0 Lollipop. If you're looking forward to Android 5.0 Lollipop but won't be getting a Nexus 6 anytime soon, we recently reported which smartphone manufacturers were planning to release a Lollipop update. Motorola has taken it one step further with a new support site.

Motorola created a dedicated page for Motorola smartphone owners to check out which smartphones the company plans on releasing the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for. The list includes the Moto X (1st Gen.), Moto X (2nd Gen.), Moto G (1st Gen.), Moto G (2nd Gen.), Droid Maxx, Droid Ultra, Droid Mini, Moto G 4G LTE, and Moto E.

If your smartphone is not on the list, Motorola hasn't necessarily left you out in the cold, it states that, "Our current plans for Lollipop upgrades include the following products. This will evolve over time, so check back for changes."

Make sure you check back to see if your smartphone will receive the Lollipop update and when.
