First Major OnePlus 3T Update Rolls Out: T-Mobile Optimization, Battery Improvements, And Increased Stability, But No Android 7.0 Nougat

OnePlus has started rolling out the first major software update for the OnePlus 3T, bringing with it a host of fixes and improvements to the upgraded OnePlus 3.

The OxygenOS 3.5.4 update, unfortunately, is still based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, and not on the latest version of Google's mobile operating system, Android 7.0 Nougat.

OnePlus 3T OxygenOS 3.5.4 Update Details

The changelog for the OxygenOS 3.5.4 update of the OnePlus 3T was posted by OnePlus on its official forums, showing all fixes and improvements that users can expect.

The update optimizes the OnePlus 3T for usage on the T-Mobile network, while also optimizing Bluetooth connectivity when used to pair up with vehicles by Mazda.

The battery of the OnePlus 3T also received significant focus, as the update fixes the lag that users experience when the smartphone's battery level dips to 5 percent and below. The device's battery saving mode has also been changed by restoring the user's orientation and GPS settings upon leaving the mode.

The usability issue of the flashlight while within WhatsApp has also been fixed.

The OxygenOS 3.5.4 update also generally increased the system stability of the OnePlus 3T, while also implementing various bug fixes that were not detailed in the changelog.

The over-the-air update is being released incrementally, so OnePlus 3T owners who do not immediately receive it should just wait for the update to arrive over the coming days.

Still No Android 7.0 Nougat For OnePlus 3T

While the OnePlus 3T received rave reviews upon its release, one of the major downsides of the device is that it was released with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and not Android 7.0 Nougat, despite the availability of the latest version of the mobile operating system when the smartphone was launched.

Many users were hoping that the OxygenOS 3.5.4 update, considered to be the first major software update for the OnePlus 3T after the relatively minor OxygenOS 3.5.3 update that was released in November, would finally bring Android 7.0 Nougat to the device. The OxygenOS 3.5.4 update did not do so, but it did address several day-one issues that have frustrated OnePlus 3T users since the smartphones was launched.

OnePlus has promised that Android 7.0 Nougat would be coming to the OnePlus 3T before the month ends, so users will simply have to wait for the update to arrive. In the meantime, after releasing the beta version of Android 7.0 Nougat for the OnePlus 3 a couple of weeks ago, the company has started rolling out the second beta build for the OnePlus 3T predecessor.
