Sparrow, the popular fan-favorite intergalactic speeder bike in Bungie's Destiny, is back at the centerpiece in a new holiday-themed event for the game, which it calls "The Dawning."
The Dawning
The Dawning was announced at this year's recently concluded PlayStation Experience. It focuses on traversing the world of Destiny, only this time there's twice as many maps as there were available last year. Even for those who don't care too much about Sparrow, there are still a number of items to earn, alongside new ways to play. Here are some of things you can do now that The Dawning is rolling out.
How To Play The Dawning
Per usual, the holiday event will only be available for those who purchased the game's most recent expansion, Destiny: Rise of Iron. The Dawning will come as a free update for these folks, lugged alongside Destiny's 2.5.0 update for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Sparrow Racing League
Six players can compete in the Sparrow Racing League, and those who will compete in these races will net special Sparrow Racing League-themed items, emblems, and more. Bungie has added two new racetracks, Haakon Precipice on Earth and Shining Sands on Mercury, on top of the only two racetracks, Infinite Descent on Venus and Campus Martius on Mars, that were available last year.
For players wanting to get started on Sparrow Racing League-specific bounties and quests, they are available from Amanda Holliday.
Other Changes And Additions
Apart from Sparrow-specific updates, The Dawning also contains new quests from Commander Zavala and Guardian Outfitter Eva Levante. Bungie is introducing a new strike scoring system with The Dawning, and players might want to hit up Zavala's bounties since they tie up with the new scoring system, and completing them will give players a chance to wield the Year 3 version of Icebreaker, a sniper rifle left behind in Year 2.
The Record Book has also been updated with new challenges for the winter season, with nine new emotes now available for purchase at the Eververse Trading Company.
Additionally, for a player who has a level 40 character, uncommon engrams will now turn into weapon or armor materials once the character picks them up, which should save a lot of time for players who previously had to dismantle items.
The full changelog is quite hefty, and Bungie has published a detailed list of all the changes that come with The Dawning on its site.
The Dawning rolls out Dec. 13, lasting three weeks only. The event ends Jan 3, 2017.
Destiny is an online-only first-person shooter released back in 2014. It's available for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
